Hello Guys,

I am in need of a mentor to start investing in the FX or Crypto market. Currently I would like to save up for Uni but with my current remuneration, it would take a long time.

Commercial Pilot :’)

Well I think FX / Crypto Trading is a high risk way of saving up. You might end up with nothing and your dream of becoming a commercial pilot will be totally gone.

You’ve got 6 years. And now you are only starting to look at how to save up?

Maybe you should start by finding a job and work part time as you study? No such thing as instant rich unless u go win lottery

Yes bro. Just started a full time job last week. What I’m actually looking for is like a mentor for investment you see.

I’m actually learning FX atm and probably need a mentorship for it. Cheers for the sites.

Currently saving for a degree while working ft and pt job. Sad to say it would probably take me about 3 years to save.

I fully understand the gravity of the situation and with that being said it would take me atleast 8 more years before I can graduate as a Pilot due to saving for school , school and actually pilot cadetship. I feel that If I don’t try, I’ll spend my whole life regretting.

24 is still young. From what I've read, you are looking for something but nothing in particular. Maybe read more WSO or salary.sg for more ideas?

You will be better off getting a degree and saving up in the long run. Trading and investing can wait for now. There's a million ways to make a million.

Being a pilot is prob not too savvy for now. Hope you read and thought clearly about the news regarding the airline industry and what it means for a prospective cadet.

Firstly, whatever you do, don’t go pay to attend those how to get rich cost. That’s the fastest way to desave not save.

Secondly, the aviation industry may take at least 4 years to recover to pre-Covid levels. Even after that it may take a long time for them to even want to recruit new pilots rather than re-hire old timers, so you might have more time than you think or may not even have the chance.

Thirdly, why don’t you start by reading up online, borrow books etc. Then test with paper account? Then think about getting a mentor. If you want to get a mentor from scratch, before you can even save you already de-save a fair bit.

Finally, don’t take shortcut thinking that you can learn to trade and get rich fast. The opposite may very well happen.

What happens if you lose it all instead? Eat grass?

I’m turning 24 and a degree program would require 3-4 years. I have to apply for my dream Job by 30.

Commercial Pilot :’)
Becoming a commercial pilot doesn’t actually require a 3 or 4 year degree, although that’s not a bad idea necessarily. It’s a path involving training, licensing, and developing experience. I would also note that you didn’t say “airline pilot,” and I wonder if your word choice is deliberate. Commercial pilots do things like pipeline surveys, aerial photography, crop dusting, banner towing, traffic reporting, civilian law enforcement-related flying, aerial firefighting, weather-related flying, charter, and some cargo flying (e.g. transplant organ carriage). Many of these roles are being taken over by drones, perhaps remotely piloted. The pilots for the likes of Fedex and UPS are almost always licensed airline pilots, above commercial, except perhaps for some of their feeders.

I think there are two basic ways to make a career out of flying:

1. The military route. Join your nation’s Air Force, learn as much as you can including especially how to manage and mitigate risks (FX trading is not that), and then head to an airline after several years — when and if they’re hiring. One significant downside is that there’s no guarantee this Air Force will even put you in a plane except perhaps as baggage. You might end up doing something else, like driving a fuel truck and attaching fuel hoses to planes that other people fly and maintain. Or attaching and removing things that go boom. These skills aren’t necessarily in as much demand after your military career. The major advantage is there’s no upfront capital required.

2. The civilian route. There are a couple variants. One is to attend a university with a dedicated aviation program, typically in a country with a big general aviation sector, low cost of flying (it’s still expensive), and lots of open airspace. I’m talking about the United States as the best such example. But you could also just go to a non-university flying school and work your way through FAA licensing. You need some decent startup capital for either path (more for the university path), and the university path offers a fallback of a degree, even in something other than aviation or aeronautical sciences if the university is multidisciplinary.

If you’re considering path #2, why don’t you put your name in for the U.S. Diversity Visa Lottery? DV-2022 should be open next month (October, 2020), and if you win this lottery then you’re eligible for a U.S. green card (Permanent Residence) assuming you can clear the hurdles (criminal background check, enough financial ability to get established, etc.) And if you don’t get a ticket this year, you can try every year. Then the basic idea is you head to the U.S., work full time, live as cheaply as you can, put every spare dollar into flying lessons, and get these licenses/ratings in approximately this order:

private pilot
instrument
multiengine
commercial pilot
flight instructor

Then start instructing and flying charter if it comes up. The pay is typically terrible, the hours can be tough, and your companions may be corn and cows, but it can be an amazing experience for the right person/personality. You build time, behave yourself (e.g. no weed, and very strict rules re: alcohol), then see if a regional cargo or passenger airline carrier job opens up to get you into ATP and type ratings.

Up for it?

Cant you get a loan for your studies? Trading (especially forex trading) to get additional income can easily backfire and set you back further.

I've always said that trading tends to attract people who are most likely to fail at it, your circumstances tell me you really shouldnt be trading.

Both my parents are not working anymore hence loan seems tough without a guarantor. I thought so too but then again with the little savings i have and with proper mentorship I thought maybe it could be a way to fund my studies you see.

I’m just exploring options bro. If you don’t have anything nice to say then please avoid replying.

Sometimes you need people to drill into you hard truth to wake up. Don’t be so easily affected by hard truth. If not you wouldn’t go very far.

Hey bro yes it’s actually an airline Pilot. I did apply through RSAF but was not successful. The reason to further my studies to stand a better chance for cadetship under an airline.

It’s my first time hearing about the lottery ticket. Will check it out and apply if I meet the requirements. Thank you so much

Ok thank you bro. Anyways it’s not that I’m looking for a shortcut but rather I do have responsibilities with my family and saving up will really not get me towards my goal. I hope you understand.
