Been messing around with g-sync lately and ran into many issues with borderless windowed g-sync apps. Initially with g-sync on, my fps was capped to my monitor's refresh rate @ 144hz.

After messing around with it and turning it on/off, it goes above the refresh rate now. Does anyone know for a fix to windowed borderless gsync frame issues and is my fps supposed to be cap to my refresh rate with gsync?

regards to G-sync is that the monitor will force your max fraps to the monitor refresh rates. u cant do anything about it once u used it. unless u dun it the fps will increase but monitor refresh rate is still cap at 144hz.

as for bolderless issues, u might need to dig deep on your own as well.

Thats what I thought, but right now with gsync on, its no longer cap to my refresh rate.

First of all, what you need to know is if your framerate goes above your Monitor's refresh rate, G-Sync will be disabled. You will experience tearing again.

Encountered the same issue as you. To resolve this issue, go to Nvidia Control Panel and go to Set Up G-Sync and tick Enable G-Sync. Then choose Enable G-Sync for Windowed and full screen mode.

Your borderless window problem should go away.

I just saw that mine was set to only in Full screen mode after my Nvidia update. Fate brought me to this thread and helped me solve my problem before it happens. xD

I don't think you need vsync to cap the monitor's refresh rate. Gsync is the improved version of vsync so I shouldnt need to turn it on. Gsync only caps my refresh rate in windowed mode but not full screen. Pretty weird.

Gsync matches your monitor's refresh rate to your in-game FPS, but that's about it. Gsync on its own doesn't cap fps. To do that, you either use Vsync or use software such as Rivatuner to cap fps or cap fps in-game if the in-game options allow for that.

With Gsync on and Vsync off, your frame rate can go beyond your monitor's refresh rate, and this could cause tearing. yes, it is damn unreliable.

for instance, it cap for me in overwatch, but not in LoL and WoW.

basically if you want g sync to activate for the games where it never auto cap, you have to set framerate cap using the in game setting. make sure it is below 144 fps (pick 143 fps if available)

you shouldn't use software like nvidia inspector to cap because it introduce input lag (lazy to find source but you can go google).

If you turn on V-Sync, you are essentially turning off G-Sync. NEVER turn V-Sync on in any games.
Usually games have the option to lock your refresh rates.
But what you can also do is turn on your graphics settings even higher to make your framerate drop below 144Hz and that will keep G-Sync on and you'll enjoy better graphics too. :s13:

Sorry but I don't think that's correct.

As long as your fps doesn't exceed your monitor's refresh rate, then Gsync is on (regardless of your Vsync setting).

However, whenever your fps exceeds your monitor's refresh rate, then Gsync will be turned off, even with Vsync off.

G-Sync with VSync on introduces lag similar to VSync
And notice at 12:54 when he says that VSync took over and that G-Sync is not active.

If you want to use VSync in the first place, I suggest saving your money and just buy a cheaper monitor without G-Sync in the first place.

Hi there, just thought I would share my experience with using GSync. I personally leave GSync on for only full-screen mode under Nvidia Control Panel as I experienced an issue with my games capping at 24FPS if I turned on GSync for borderless windowed mode.

Also, I find generally disabling VSync for all games, and using RivaTuner to cap FPS for my games (manually cap at either 60/144 depending on title) to provide the smoothest visual experience!

Yes, I know about the input lag. My point is that Vsync does not override Gsync, which is what you seem to be suggesting.

I watched the video. At that point that he mentioned, Vsync took over simply because the in-game FPS had met or exceeded the monitor's refresh rate.

When the in-game FPS exceeds the monitor's refresh rate, Gsync is not active. Gsync doesn't work beyond the monitor's refresh rate. So even if you turn off Vsync but your in-game FPS is greater than monitor's refresh rate, Gsync is still not active.

If you want to use VSync in the first place, I suggest saving your money and just buy a cheaper monitor without G-Sync in the first place.
Yes, Vsync introduces input lag but does not affect whether Gsync is active. And if you don't mind input lag (or like me, not sensitive to it), then it is still ok to use Gsync and Vsync in tandem.
