I read many less than encouraging review of the item. After a thorough consideration, I bought one for, StarHub which is $8 more than Far East after $100 voucher. Stocks are not an issue with StarHub while shops including concept store were Out of Stock yesterday.

Charging is very fast with low powered charger. with supplied 1.25 Watt charger, the unit get a full charge an hour or less. As note 3 is quite a big device, I like the vibrating alert of SMS and calls is great. Being able to answer call when hands are not free is another useful feature.

Camera quality is good and there is Evernote app that'd an be installed

Overall, it is a good buy.

Correct. Good use when in a car or when holding many stuff with no way to hold phone.

At your respective Telco. Look at the voucher. If you need to pay by credit card, installment or more color choice, buying through voucher is cheaper than concept store at RRP. Otherwise, shops is cheaper by cash

Agree that price should have been lower. Putting $388 price tag into perspective is not too bad. A typical Bluetooth headset from Jabra or plantronics costs around 120 to 170. Counting premium of having handy camera, pedometer and Evernote on the go, still acceptable.

I see price may drop soon after the initial market response. It has dropped over 188 less than a week

That sucks. For such an expensive device, the least they could do is to make sure basic functions work. Pebble can even show WhatsApp messages.

Samsung Singapore does not know what Samsung devices can do. The staff that I spoke to before didn't even know the existence of the Note 10.1 2014. I use the Gear on a daily basis and it does indeed let you read sms and you can reply via s voice too. For emails, if you use the android email client (not the gmail one), then you can read and reply to emails as well on the Gear.

Good to hear it does read sms and emails.
What is the setting if any that enable you to receive sms on the gear?
My friend and my gear could not receive sms.
Could you share?

but found out that cannot use 3rd party sms like Go sms pro on the note 3.
The gear do not response when the phone receive a sms using 3rd party sms.

Uninstall my 3rd party sms. Now gear can receive sms.

here, just got my gear today. i will do some update here. for unboxing.. sorry for the lousy review. wahaha..

The Galaxy Gear in SG finally received the first major update.

The major changes are that all notifications are now supported so that you can read Hangouts Gmail on it without having to use the stock Samsung Email app, and the Gear can be set to display the last screen shown before it turned off, e.g. media control.

Supposedly the battery life and tethering range has increased as well, but I haven't had the chance to test that out.
