Galaxy note 2 wifi speed test.

Hi guys.

Just wondering what are the speeds you can achieve while on wifi.

I'm on starhub 100mbps fiber. I'm using a tp link 300m wireless network gigabit router.

My desktop speed tests can hit 120mbps without problems..

However, my galaxy note 2 can't hit 30mbps even if I'm standing beside my router.

I can sometimes hit 50mbps with my Lte connection..

What seems to be the problem?

hmm. i'm using singtel 100mbps too. Using ethernet cable, it's able to achieve 106mbps. However on any mobile devices via wifi, it can only achieve up to 40mbps.

Note 2 supports wireless N technology for both 2.4/5Ghz bands leh. Therefore the minimum speed attainable is 130Mbps.

I guess it is the router which limits the speed, or there is a firewall?

I'm unable to verify as I'm still using 15mbps ADSL.

I'm testing my 4g now as my data usage is gonna reset soon. singtel 4g speed, best download is 23mbps, upload is 15.47mbps. Using speedtest app to test, each test consume 20mb.

When connected to singnet wifi, optic fibre 100mbps plan, best download is 37.2mbps, upload is 42.99mbps.

Nv hit 50mbps before on wifi

Router has no firewall or restrictions enabled..

How many devices is connected to the wifi when u were testing it out? Maybe if u were to test it when no devices is connected to the wifi, speed will be faster. But then again, there's really no point having such a fast speed. There's a limit to how fast your phone can run. Can't really feel the speed increment between 30mbps speed and 20mbps.

For what i know. As long as your internet connections go thru a router it is no longer as fast as you think. Unless on dual band or tripple band router. And by going thru a router if you are using a single band your typical dl speed is the most 30mbps. Unless you are on dual band it should give you a close 75mbps. They wont give you 100mbps at lunch time. Dinner time. And after office hrs.

i on 200mbps singnet fibre able to get on wi-fi download 37.48mbps upload 55.47mbps, as for LTE on m1 4G reading download 42.71mbps upload 22.77mbps.

I'm on a 100mbps plan too with n66u router. My GN2 won't go over 30mbps on wifi. I'm no network engineer but I'm guessing it's a hardware bottleneck caused by the wifi antennas on the GN2. It's a phone afterall so squeezing full fledged 3x3 antennas that are usually found in laptops or network adapters will just add on to the bulk or sap the battery life which isn't practical. In the end, putting smaller(1x1? 2x2? result in lower throughput) dual band wireless n antennas becomes a good compromise between marketing attractiveness, cost, design and performance.

and since the antenna and chip responsible for LTE/2G/3G is a different part of the phone, the performance is bound to be different with that of wifi. It's true that we're used to wifi being the faster alternative to radio data speeds but the arrival of LTE changed that. I remember being in MBS for the launch of iPhone 5 and trying their speedtest with LTE for the first time. It hit over 70mbps and I was stumped.

I could be COMPLETELY wrong but that's my guess
