Don't know if its one of my apps which was updated recently that caused it but the battery is draining a lot faster than normal and also the phone gets hot really quickly.

I don't suppose there is anyway to know which is the app that is causing the problem? Don't want to have to reformat my phone and reinstall all the apps again.

Long time never install app liao. Should be uninstall the last app I updated except there are so many apps and I just let it auto update so I can't even remember which is the last one to get updated!

Edit: Ok just went to Play Store. Updated today were:
- Flipboard. Can't uninstall, stupid Samsung default app. Unless I disable it. Would that help, assuming this app is the cause?

- Google. Can't uninstall, stupid Samsung default app. Unless I disable it. Would that help, assuming this app is the cause?

- Inkpad. I use this so I can't uninstall it unless there's a "safer" alternative?

- Linkedin. I use this so can't uninstall.

- OCBC Wow Deals. I guess can uninstall lah except I wouldn't know about the latest OCBC offers liao.

- Pop Corn. I guess can uninstall lah but then what app do I use for movies?

- Samsung Print Service Plug in. Can't uninstall, stupid Samsung default app. Unless I disable it. Would that help, assuming this app is the cause?

- Toggle. I use this so can't uninstall.

Thanks. Will try that. Guess its better to plug the phone to the charger even when its 100% before I do that.

Ok did the reset of battery file. Battery still going faster than before but i think its a bit better than before the reset. And phone is not as hot as yesterday. I suspect one of the app updates must have fooked things up.

Hmm still thought it was a S'pore release. I better wait for the actual one. Sh*t lah my phone was ok all this while dunno why suddenly like this. A colleague said could be the battery itself cork up, do you guys think its possible? I suspect might really be battery problem because not only battery life overnight become terok but also phone damn hot when just use a while. Even when phone is in standby mode and battery being charged also the phone damn hot.

Normally I will charge my phone till 100% then turn off for the night. Next morning wake up and turn on its 98 to 99%. By the time finish work is about 70%. Go home still have time to use it while watching TV. Basket! Now only what time and my battery is totally flat.

Am quite sure its not the build because all along I've been on this build. Could be an app update but then again can a mere app update cause the battery life to become so terok?

Besides I have already uninstalled all apps I seldom use PLUS I have disabled all the bloatware Samsung apps which I can't uninstall. Still no use.

Wonder if its worth it to buy a new batt & swap it out to see if things get better.

What did your battery stats tell you? Check to see which process or app is using the most battery.

I remembered when I had my Note 2 the battery life suddenly became terrible and the phone got really hot - similar symptoms like yours. I found out that it was the media server (or media scanner) process that was hogging the CPU and draining the battery.

This can happen if you have some corrupt files in either your SD card or internal storage that was tripping the Media Scanner process up into going into a continuous loop. I initially thought it was my 64GB Sandisk micro-sd card. I formatted it and restored the information and the problem persisted. I finally solved it by re-formatting the internal storage (after backing up my data first).

Android's error trapping routine sucks.

Android & the screen. That's all that is left. Already closed everything else but battery still draining super fast and phone still v hot.

But I only have photos on my SD card leh. And MP3 music. No videos.

Android is just a generic catchall term that encompasses a whole bunch of system processes.

You might want to try installing a monitoring app from the Play store to monitor your phone - OS Monitor is just one of the many utilities available. Just see which process or app using up your CPU and google it :)

If you only have photos in your SD card, back it up and do a re-format (both internal and external). No harm in trying that.

Before this problem with my battery occurred, I would take a fully charged phone to work and use it occasionally for Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp and emails. By the time I reach home at about 7 pm the battery would be about 60 to 65%. I could still do some web surfing, watch some Youtube videos and use Instagram & Facebook occasionally before I go to bed, by which time the battery would be about 40 to 45%.

After my battery somehow corked up overnight, I found my battery hitting 20% as early as 5 pm! I even made a conscious effort NOT to use my phone for anything at all and still, it would be about 20% even before I left the office. Not to mention my phone was never hot before but these few days I can really feel the heat when phone is in my pocket.

I reformatted my phone last night and did a reinstall of my apps. So technically if it was a software issue or an app update which screwed up my battery, that should solve the problem I assume.

This time I refrained from installing all my previous apps, just those that I often make use of and those that might come in useful one day. I also disabled all those pre-installed apps which I can't uninstall. As advised by one website, I even downloaded Greenify to hibernate all those apps hiding in the background.

NFC, locations service, Bluetooth & all the fancy stuff like Air Command & Smart Gestures are off. Not even using LTE but running on 3G when there is no Wi-Fi. I was told to use Wifi smart location switch as it supposedly saves battery but I notice it kept reverting to 3G even when there was wifi so I gave up on that & just left wifi on permanently.

It is 10 am now and so far the battery is at 89%. Let's see how it goes. RAM Status says 1.95GB out of 2.7GB and zero active applications. Application Manager says 1.6GB used and 1.1GB free under "Running. Show cached processes". Good news is the phone is not as hot as last few days.

Just hope the battery life is back to normal. ASSUMING (God forbid!) the battery life still sucks, can I then assume its a problem with my battery seeing that I've already reformatted my phone?
