Galaxy S / Galaxy S2 - Get into Download Mode using homemade JIG

I don't know if this is helpful to all or not, but it definitely saved my life and I don't think we should have this hidden in the few hundred pages of the SGS thread

i won't repeat wat's already stated on the xda forum, u can read more info on the jig here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551, I'll just add in a summary/some additional steps and info u'll need to get this done locally.

First, get a micro usb plug. get any cheap micro usb cable from either Sim Lim Square or websites like dealextreme (eg: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-to-micro-usb-charging-cable-60cm-length-48924). Try to get a cable with thinner insulation at the plug so that it's easier to cut

Then get a 300kohm and 1kohm resistors, wattage don't matter here. The easiest place to find them would be Sim Lim Tower, there are lotsa shops there, and each resistor only cost like 20c. Buy more in case u do some wrong soldering.

If u dunno how to read the resistance, ask the shopkeeper for help. Take note that it's 300Kohm, there were ppl in xda forum whom bought 300ohm resistors, and it doesn't work of cos

At the same time, get a soldering gun and some solder at Sim Lim Tower if you don't have it.

Go home, follow the Procedure on the xda site, and wala! ur jig is done!

In case u don't know which are the pins, here's the pix...

pin 4 and pin 5:

colour code on the resistors:

my jig is ugly and hard to keep but i can't hiam cos my dad did the soldering for me :s13:

if u're wondering if this jig is being sold, u can get it on ebay here: http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150543523349

just PM me if you need it urgently. i can just lend mine =:p

seriously its not worth the effort to do it. unless you have those spare components, you are fond of soldering or stay near sim lim, its worth ordering one now to keep as spare. even though you got no problem.

Pardon me for a noob question, but this is the download mode jig right? There's sth even newer?

I can lend this to someone on the spot if they need but you have to come collect it at my convenience

My device, Galaxy S2 now displaying 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again'.

Using the micro usb jig will enable my device to enter into recovery mode?

May I borrow it from you on Site (anywhere convenient for you) and will return immediately to you after use.

Despite the device showing 'Firmware uprade enoutered an issue....'

Pressing all three buttons simultaneously I am able to enter into:

If you want to download a custome OS, press the volume up key. Otherwise, press the volume down key to caqncel.

Volume up: Continue

Either action, volume up or down did not work.

Well, it looks like mine is a serious problem. A local repair shop is unable to fix it. My warranty expired last month.
