1) What is the resolution of the TV? If dunno, state model of TV.

2) Budget?

3) Why do you need Windows 8 Professional? Standard Edition good enough.

1.Thanks for the quick reply. I believe the TV is not 4k HD, maybe around 26 inch. Not sure of model and resolution.. Will ask him tmr.

2.budget around 1.5-1.6

for the choice of rig n parts i leave to the experts to decide.

imho, there is no such thing as future proofing yr friend's rig. new mobos, processors, gfx, hdds, ssds etc are being launched almost every quarter. the gfx u buy now might be good enough to play the current AAA games for the next 12-18 months at least at max settings. after that it will be a bit obsolete.

so....be aware of this and be prepared to cough up more every 1-2 yrs to constantly upgrade yr rig.
for me thou, i am more than happy to upgrade my rig with certain parts every 4 yrs to extend the lifespan.:s22::s12:

Ok, I will take note of that. Thanks!

Why your friend need such a large HDD? Prawns? Warez?

I don't know how much he need, I didn't ask. Just setting aside for buffer. HDD GB/$ cheaper nowadays also..

CPU+ Mobo: ASUS H81I-PLUS + i5 4460 (349)
RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 1600MHZ ( 4GBx2pcs ) CL9 (118)
GPU: POWER COLOR R9 280X 3GB TURBODUO (418)
SSD: CRUCIAL MX100 256GB (162)
HDD: TOSHIBA 2TB 7200RPM (104)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER LEADEX 650w GOLD MODULAR (139)
Case: CM 120 M-ITX CASING (89)

Total cost: $1404

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, go to PC Care & Solution at #02-32 and ask Nigel to help you assemble for a fee.

Notes:

1) This is an ITX build.

2) Motherboards nowadays have even build quality across brands and chipsets. A H81 motherboard will suit your friend's needs just nice.

3) Your friend is just gaming, he does not need a SSD with exceptional write performance. A Crucial MX100 will suits him just fine.

4) The R9 280X is capable of playing your friend's games smoothly at max settings on 1080p. If your friend's TV is not even capable of displaying full HD, then this rig can last longer without upgrades as gaming on lower resolutions places less strain on the GPU.

5) You do not need DDR3-2133 RAMs unless you overclock as the difference between 1600MHz and 2133MHz RAMs are measured in mere milliseconds.

6) If not overclocking, no need aftermarket cooler. Intel stock coolers will work just fine.

Budget 1.5-1.6

CPU + Mobo - Intel i5 4460 + GA-H87N-WIFI - $387
Ram - G.Skill Ripjawsx 2133 Mhz CL9 4GBx2 Kit - $122
SSD - Samsung Evo 840 250GB - $175
HDD - WD Green 2-4TB - $104-194
ODD - Samsung DVDRW 24x OEM - $21

Casing - Coolermaster Elite 120 Advanced Mini-Itx

OS - from G2A

Need further recomendation for PSU, CPU Casing, GPU, CPU Cooler *(Do take a look at tradepac's bundle)

Question - G2A's Windows key, why global edition cost 3x more? If I buy this https://www.g2a.com/windows-8-professional-32-64-bit-cd-key-global.html for clean install no problem right?

Ram 1600mhz will do. 2133mhz no difference in performance.
Room cramp should get a small mATX case with mATX mobo. ITX abit more expensive.

PSU get superflower 600.

If not overclocking no need cooler. But if die die want to get one the CM Hyper 212 is good enough.

GPU, I would get a Gigabyte R9 280x.

Save your money. You dont need a CPU Cooler like the evo 212. Take that money and spend more on something else like a better GPU like r9 290.

I intended to get a CM Elite 120, but the PSU is above the CPU, blocking airflow..
Need alternative casing.

What is your updated specs? Need to consider a few items before we can recommend as well.

Updated in first post, thanks.
Roughly have 250$ left for PSU + Casing

Should I get the R9 280x + PSU (Seasonic M12 850W) bundle in tradepac for 550$?

U dun need 850w psu... 600-650w will do.

For ur ssd, go qoo10 and search for samsung evo 250gb at $159, sold by bizgram. A good value buy. U jus meed to select store pick up, either print out or show them the voucher at their store and self collect.
