Hi all

This will be my first foray into buying a laptop after decades of desktop use. Only because my job requires more travel so I want to game on long flights. I want something that has the following:
-6th Gen i7 processor
-at least 970M (no SLi configs)
- SSD
- min 16GB RAM
- backlit keyboard
- less chunky design
Budget < 3k

Thanks

MSI GE62
i7-6700HQ / GTX 970 / 8GB Ram / 128GB SSD + 1 TB HDD / Steelseries customizable backlit. / 2 year warranty (1st year international) / 2.4KG @ 2299.

Don't fully quote me on price. i cannot remember the SRP for this model now :o

my suggestion is if you are looking for 16GB ram, upgrade at a later date. most models only have 8GB, apart from the higher end models as DDR4 still relatively new.

OR

MSI GS40
i7-6700HQ / GTX 970 / 16*GB Ram / 128GB SSD + 1 TB HDD / Steelseries backlit keyboard / 2 year warranty (1st year international) / 1.6KG @ 2999.

Check to confirm 16GB Ram.

PS about battery life : Please do not expect much out of its battery life.
The machine you are getting is a performance machine, not a battery endurance one.

Thanks! Never expected to game on battery for long :s13:

Are you referring to the GE62 6QF? And that's around $2299?

Question: Do MSI laptops come with 256GB SSD instead of 128GB?

Yup, and that should be the SRP. I can drop you a contact to look for if you would like to purchase.

Mostly no, they mostly have 128GB + 1TB. If they go 256, it would be just the SSD without the 1TB. Certain higher-end models like the GS60 could have both drives though. You can upgrade the 128GB on your own or through an authorized store like PCDreams. :)

Thanks, don't mind a contact. Is Corbell the authorized distributor in Singapore?

Actually I don't see why they don't include 255GB SSD + 1TB HDD.. the physical of the drive is the same whether its 128GB or 256GB after all?

So I take it that the only difference between the GE62 6QF and the GS62 6QF is the size, with the GS being slimmer and more expensive? All else equal, the specs are exactly the same?

The GE62 is slightly bulkier than the GS60 and heat dissipation should be slightly better.

Adding 256GB SSD will drive the cost up. That's where they come in and make the higher end model with the 256GB a differentiator compared to the lower end with 128GB.

And I have dropped you a pm!

Got it. Thank you :)

Will head down to Funan for a look. Maybe pop by and check Aftershock also while I'm there :)
