Gaming/OC Rig questions...

Firstly, I'm looking at two MBs.

1. Asrock Z87 Extreme6
2. MSI Z87 G45 Gaming

Will be pairing it up with a 4670K...

I'm leaning towards the MSI due to the design and catered more for gamers. While the Asrock is good for overclocking..

Asrock - 12 power phase..
MSI - 8?

Will be overclocking the CPU only though.

Some features I like about the MSI is the killer eternet port. That said, the AsRock has 2 gigabit ethernets ports with teaming. How is that compared to the former?

Lastly, which way is the cheapest way to build a rig? Through this guy called Fortran? Or should I buy the cheapest parts all over SLS and bring them to this guy called Nigel who is located at the 2nd floor to get it assembled.

DIY it yourself! Nothing beats the experience.

Just diy yourself. Mild oc can get the msi g45 will do. Using it now loving to keep looking inside my chassis. Its good in aesthetic wise.

About power phase i believe the asrock extreme is 10 power phase + 2 for dram

G45 is 8+2 for dram

But for looks, g45 way to go.

You really want to push get 1 with better power phase.

Go Asrock Ex6.... But end of the day.. still limited by heat.

If you wanna push it over the limits then you shouldn't be looking at H80i. Probably a better one. Somewhat above H100i.

And if you really wanna compare to OC. I think you should be looking at the g65 board instead of the g45 board in comparison with the asrock extreme 6.

Yeah, I want a single fan design.. so the H80i is alright. Was thinking of pushing it to bout 4.4ghz..

Sorry this is my first built that I'm gonna try overclocking...

Saw a vid on youtube, a guy uses the g45 and OC his 4670k to around that amount..

so i guess im leaning towards that now...

4.4mhz OC... H80i should be fine. Use a better thermal paste than the pre-applied one on the cooler.

Best if u dare to de-lid the cpu and change its thermal paste too. Lol.

g45+4670K @ 507 is really hard to beat imo. Save the money for a better GPU > slight overclock.

Ok, think I'll stick with that combo. Because the Asrock cost $50 more. So thought I may get a significant upgrade(quality & features) for that price.

GFX wise, I'm already aiming at the MSI 780 GTX TF.

Read somewhere that the corsair water cooling MTBF is only 5000hrs. Is it true? How reliable are they?

Moreover, should I get Windows 8 or just stick to Windows 7? Will Win7 still be supported for atleast another 3 years?
