Hi all,

Thanks for your advice on helping me get my first DIY PC.
Now, my friend wants to get one as well and he plans to use it mainly for gaming such as payday2, skyrim, BF4.

I suggested the below build for him

I5 4570
Asrock B85 pro4
Sapphire Vapor X R9 280X
8GB G-skill RAM
1TB WD Caviar Blue
250GB Samsung Evo SSD (Amazon)
Seasonic G650
Case with a big side window

Budget of 2000 and planning to get parts from pcthemes. Case can be gotten from other places though. Any improvements to be made?

2k is a generous budget.

Go for more gaming oriented boards such as

MSI B85 G43 Gaming, ASrock B85 Killer.

MSI B85 G43 Gaming + i5-4570 ~ $384
OR
ASrock B85 Killer + i5-4570 ~ $357
WD Blue 1tb ~ $72
Samsung EVO 250gb ~ $180 (amazon)
MSI R9 290 4gb ~ $667
Seasonic G650 650w 80+ Gold Semi Modular PSU ~ $135
Corsair Obsidian 450D ~ $169
Samsung ODD ~ $21
Dell s2340L ~ $219
Windows 8.1 ~ $115

Total ~ $1962 MSI board. $1935 ASrock Board.

Buy at tradepac. DIY.

There is a MSI R9 290 4gb Twin Frozr in PC Themes ~ $649. Try buying from them or ask tradepac to price match.

If you're getting SSDs off amazon, get the Sandisk Extreme II.
It's now cheaper than the EVO, and performs twice as well.
Don't bother with a budget drive such as the EVO when a high end drive like the Extreme II is on discount.
