My boyfriend's birthday is coming soon and I'm planning to get a CPU. He play BF3 most of the time and some GW2, does some insane web-browsing too.

Budget is around 1.4k-1.6k.
Case - Hopefully it's in white because he just got his keyboard and mice which is white in colour.

Thanks in advance as I hardly will be able to view this forum unless I'm working because I'm with my boyfriend most of the time and this is a birthday surprise for him. :mog:

Without over-clocking, my recommendations:

Mobo + CPU: Asrock B85M-Pro4 + i5-4570- $382
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB DDR5 - $409
Mem: G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz 16GB (8GBx2) CL 9 - $199
SSD: Plextor M5P 128GB - $172
HDD: WD Caviar Blue (1TB) - $85
PSU: Seasonic M12II-520W - $99
Casing: CM Storm Scout II (White) - $162
ROM: LG 24x DVD-RW Sata OEM - $25

Total: $1,533

Prices quoted from PCThemes except for casing which is from Fuwell.

You go ask your bf if he got over-clock pc or not bah..

Edit: Not sure if you need Windows OS or not also..

On a side note, some guys can be particular in the brands/outlook of their pc.

Better ask which brand of motherboard, graphics card, RAM, power supply, casing he prefer..

It's better to get something he likes cause it's gonna last for quite a while.. Rather than seeing the rig and feel disappointed whenever he use.. :s13:

Surely 8 gb is enough?

Anyway if you wanna get something which costs so much.. I do not think you should 'surprise' him. There is a chance this will backfire and then blossom into a beautiful quarrel lol.

So many things can go wrong.. Like processor he want to overclock you never buy k series. Gpu he hate gigabyte or whatever brand you buy cause of past experience.. Case too ugly etc etc..

He will be as happy if you bring this up and discuss with him what he wants? Maybe even go down together to buy.

My humble opinion.

Hi guys! Sorry for the late reply! I talked to him about some stuff and here's the result.

OC - He doesn't like the term over-clock, have no idea why though. He's prety weird :s12:.
Casing - So long as it's white and HOPEFULLY have a window at the side panel with bling bling blue LED stuff inside.
OS - No idea if Window 8 is better for gaming? Went to linustechtip and certain games have a 30++% improvement.
Monitor - Just bought 1.

SIDE NOTE - He doesn't want a DVD RW because it's ugly unless it matches the white colour theme :s11:. Is external dvd RW pricy?

Some games do not even run on windows 8. Must do a lot of leychey things while some run better. I will recommend windows 7 anytime. Personally I use windows 8 and boot up time is crazy. But cs go also crazy on it. Lagg when it wasn't on windows 7.

Bling Bling mostly is fan led.. Side purchase.

Internal is $25 external $50 and up I think..

Drop SSD to 128GB, get G.Skill value ram(Black PCB) and change psu to Seasonic S12 520W, should be able to hit around 1.5k.

Do take note PC Themes charges $10 for hardware assembly and $10 for software installation.

He is a heavy gamer but i think 128gb ssd will be enough though!

I've taken note of all the rig that you guys recommended, would google them up when i have more time.

I saw this pretty cute case which is the Corsair 540 AIR but after watching the youtube video, realize there's no dust filter. Will that be a huge problem? The CPU will be placed at the window so it's super dusty.

I believe corsair 540 air has no white edition? Having dust filter will be good. Else u might be cleaning the pc often because dust build up also degrades the pc performance.

Do a quick check to see if 128 GB of SSD is enough. Maybe u will be surprised that he has 100s of games installed. Lol

Whoa white theme?

Hmm, if you want small form factor can get the CM120 elite white chassis. No window though unless you are adventurous like me cut a hole.

If you want mATX factor can get the CM STORM Scout II white.

2x 120mm white LED fans. and 1x 80mm white LED fans.

Ram can choose Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz 2x4gb Low Profile White color ram.

Buy 2 300mm White LED strips and stick at the sides. OR use white color Cathode

PSU cannot help you liao. Don't recall any white PSU. Even GPU i don't think there is white.

If your bf don't like the internal DVD drive then don't buy loh. Find an external one. When in need to use then use loh. I barely touch my external DVD drive though. Everything download. From Drivers to even OS i install by using bootup USB drive.

Internal can be blue though since his keyboard and mice LED is in blue. Is the thermaltake GTS level 10 any good? No window though :( .

Yeah it's enough! The rest will be in the in the HDD!

Checked up the 540 really got no white version :(. Phantom 410 seems like a really good choice but also no dust filter.

Ah. True. I over-looked that. My apologies. Lol. Maybe a Scout 2 white (coolermaster) will be good. I using the black version.

Maybe ur bf will like that type of design since he playing bf. just an additional of around $10 more than phantom 410.

I think u can find a internal DVD rw that lets u switch the cover for a white one. My LG cheapo DVD rw has an extra. Check with the vendor. Choose nothing more than $25.
