Hey guys,

I am going to give my X51 to my mom and I am going to re-use the GTX 660 1.5GB OEM.

I decide to build a mid range gaming rig for everyday gaming.
I need everything except peripherals and gfx card.

I need Wins 7 64bit
8GB ram
i5 3rd/4th gen
Mobo with USB3.0 support
128GB SSD to install OS
500GB SATA HDD
PSU
Casing

Budget 1-1.2k.
It is mainly used for gaming and normal usage. Games like Hawken, war thunder, BF4 etc. High setting only.

Any good recommendations? I know budget abit low cos recently paid bills. Lol.

Under sticky got this rig reco
Intel Core i5 3570 & Asrock B75 PRO3 M ~ $364
or AMD FX-8350 & ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 ~ $399
G.Skill DDR3-1600MHz 8GB (2X4GB) ~ $77
Gigabyte R9 270X~ $309 or Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti ~ $
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB or Crucial M500 120GB or Intel SSD 530 120GB
HDD 1TB for Storage ~ $82
Samsung SATA 24X DVD Rewriter ~ $24
Superflower HX 500 ~ $90
Ikonik EN2 ~ $55
Total ~ $14XX

Since I don't need GPU, it should fit my budget right?

What's the point? You are not going to get any major performance boost of any sort. Might as well just buy a SSD for your Alienware X51 and reinstall Windows there, and hoot a new small PC for your mom...

Presuming your graphics card confirmed overheats under normal closed chassis circumstance, consider this:

CPU+MB: Intel Celeron G1630 + ASRock B75M-DGS @ $117
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB @ $94
SSD: Crucial M500 240GB @ $175 (t258jgn)
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB @ $72
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $21
PSU: Silverstone Strider Essential 500W [80 Plus] @ $55
CASE: Sharkoon MA-W1000 @ $65
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit [OEM] @ $115

Total: $714

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-18.

Transplant the following from your Alienware X51:
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770
GPU: Nvidia GTX 660 1.5GB [OEM]

And install these into Alienware X51:
CPU: Intel Celeron G1630
(Check make sure EFI/BIOS accepts and recognise Celeron CPU)

Here is the catch, my mom wants i7 on the com. Lol. So I am thinking of giving her my CPU whole and just reuse my gfx card.

Anyway, does any shop help you assemble and install OS? For a minimal fee of cos.

Tradepac doesn't do that right?

 mom

If you swap Core i7 for Celeron, leaving the Core i7 sticker there, will she even notice?

I just give her what she wants lo. Lol.
Then maybe you should inform her about her needs and requirements. She really doesn't need that... :s22:

Haha, I told her before. She doesn't listen.

So I got no choice I guess.

Or I can just get an i3 3rd gen processor and put it in my x51 mobo. That way, she can still use it I guess.
But not sure whether my mobo can accept i3 3rd gen anot.

Might as well follow moneyface suggestion to get celeron for her?
