Short term endowments are still not considered FD.

Capital guarantee is upon maturity at end of 2 years. If one is really keen on this, online links are available to sign up directly which I can provide more info.

Can treat it as a FD?

The link to sign up is right on the Web page. Click on "Get instant quote." There's no great mystery here!

I don't think this offer is terribly exciting, but OK, whatever.

If pay only at the end of year 2. Effective interest rate is less then 1.8%.

Its just 1.8%, if you work it out, $100k will only get you a miserable $3.6k after 2 years...

Nothing to be worried about, of course unless you believe if GE will collapse within the next 2 years.

Is it covered by insurance?

it is 1.8% each at end of year 1 and year 2. can keep year 1 payment inside to "invest" and take out togther upon maturity but the added benefit not significant to me.
