GE2025: "Our percentage is going to be a lot higher", says SPP's Steve Chia on Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC

"I think that this time round, our percentage is going to be a lot higher," said Singapore People's Party (SPP) secretary-general Steve Chia, who is contesting in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC for #GE2025. He added that it will be a "50-50 per cent chance" and that they are "working hard to make sure we cross the 50 per cent, with every hand that we shake."

Mr Chia was also asked about his thoughts on his opponents from the People's Action Party (PAP) led by Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat.

A creditable opposition who vows to fight throughout despite odds don't favor them

Unlike an ah seng who keeps running around the island condemning both the opposition and the incumbent
I am more annoyed by the fact that of the posters put up by the PAP - I see more posters of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, rather than posters of the the contesting candidates' faces.

The leaders strategy is to ask sinkie vote for the party not the individual

What he don't want to mention is there is a party whip within it which cultivates inbreeding mindset

Hence even if your favourite candidate wants to change something, he will be constrain by the whip then come and tell you

SPP confident of 50-50 chance at Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/ge2025-campaigning-day-3-general-election-5085636

Singapore People’s Party (SPP) chief Steve Chia told me he fancies his chances against the PAP team here.

“I think this time around, our percentage is going to be much higher. Without Ng Eng Hen, we believe that it's a 50-50 chance,” he said.

Defence Minister Ng, who led PAP’s team at the four-member GRC, is retiring. In his place to helm the party’s slate is Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat.

Mr Chia, a former NCMP who is contesting a sixth election, previously said he hoped for 40 per cent of the vote. But as campaigning continues, he is growing more confident about his team’s chances.

“It's the gut feel … I can feel that the ground is getting more positive for us. More people are giving us the thumbs up … and saying they support us than before the nomination,” he said.

“We are working hard to make sure that we cross the 50 per cent with every hand that we shake, with every voter that we meet with.”

He added he had bumped into PAP’s new faces contesting the GRC - Mr Cai Yinzhou and Ms Elysa Chen.

“They are good people … I believe they are also sincere, wanting to do good for Singapore,” he said. “But again, when you are with the PAP and there's this party whip, you have to decide and make your vote according to the party whip.”

Mr Chia and teammates Muhammad Norhakim and Mr Lim Rui Xian were at a walkabout around Kim Keat Palm Market and Food Centre, located within Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

They spoke to residents, handed out flyers and promoted their party’s manifesto.

【GE2025】谢镜丰:黄永宏引退 人民党在碧山—大巴窑胜算升至50%

https://www.zaobao.com.sg/news/singapore/story20250425-6244809

Michael Ng's FB Post:

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC as of 8pm 25 April, three days after Nomination Day. No sight no sound of any PAP posters or banners. Not even the requisite flyer/brochure in mail.

While Singapore People's Party had theirs displayed on the day after Nomination Day and flyers in the mail today. Does the PAP feel they will “sure win” the polls so no need for any form of electorial canvassing? Over confident?

PAP already printed their party manifesto booklet with the 4 candidates on it and distributed to all households the night of Nomination Day.

My take on this is:
1. There are a big chunk of incoming Gen Z / Millenials who have either moved in to Bishan TPY with the new projects, or come of voting age.
2. These new generation have no idea on the faces and who's the running candidates of either political party.
3. For TPY, due to the lack of an aircon shopping mall/attraction, these new generation of voters do not stay around TPY for entertainment or leisure. They travel out of TPY at first chance, using Grab or they drive as their mode of transport (TPY to them, is just a place to stay/sleep when they come back for the day, not to "live in").

So, putting up street posters and banners has become a less effective means of "advertising" the PAP candidates.

Seriously I don't even see PAP posters around in TPY. Only SPP ones. Why ah? Overly confident? Taking for granted?

My opinion, as above.

Have. Along lotong 3 :(

Funny how this discussion went into 20+ pages initially, and then after I called out the people who left only useless/meaningless comments - who don't even pass by this GRC (let alone stay near/around this GRC)... suddenly everything went quiet.
