They know what they are getting before they beat all their competitors to clinch the job.
Some of them were glassloot leaders before that.
There will be sacrifices for a official job or every senior management position.
You have to weight them against the benefit that you are getting.
Whether it is career wise or life mission driven.

There is no perfect model answers.
(I know what you meant cos it is a thankless job.
There will always be some thanks if you managed to help some of the residents even though the rest dun bird you.)

Hmmm…. I personally met Derrick for World Cup free telecast night in Nee Soon East CC. I don’t stay in his area and I understand Nee Soon East CC also not his area. Yet he was there and went to everybody’s seats to shake hands. I shook hands with him as well. Personal feel, I find him genuine. Even my cousin, who don’t stay in the area feels that way too.

Yishun voters are indeed daft to keep voting in Shan. But then again, they have no real choice with those opposition clowns contesting there. PSP last GE managed to score 42% with a relatively weak team. With RDU contesting, Shan can probably score more than 70%.
