You’re right—Westernized ideals may appeal to some, but everyday issues like secondhand smoke and paying for plastic bags affect far more Singaporeans. In a practical sense, only ministers who can address or genuinely care about solving these widely felt issues are seen as true champions in the hearts of Singaporeans. On the other hand, those who focus on less popular causes and end up negatively impacting daily life will likely be met with public scorn.

Yes, and with the new banding and all, it’s making life more difficult for both parents and students. I don’t see any real benefit to these drastic changes—except perhaps to make the decision-maker look like a maverick if things happen to turn out well.
Speaking up for the majority benefits him too. Like you said, those who speak up for the minorities get condemned by the majority. The former is machiam yes men, while the latter are sacrificing themselves.

Think about it—if speaking up for the majority guaranteed popularity, why aren’t all the ministers doing it? There are plenty of obvious, low-hanging issues they could champion.

The reality is, popular issues are often the hardest to tackle. And those JLB ministers know they’ll continue collecting fat paychecks while doing nothing, so they stay silent and avoid the heavy lifting—unlike Louis, who actually had the guts to speak up. And what response did he get? As expected—nothing will change because, apparently, it’s ‘too hard’ to implement proper checks.

"I’m stepping away, not because I stopped loving this job, really far from it ...."

Then in the first place he should stay on and not being a quitter

Look at LMW
Kana left, right, center, front and back
1 fight so many many

LMW is a fighter
Louis a quitter

Just my 2c opinion

Come on, LMW retired already, less commitment and can focus on national issues

Louis is much younger and it is also fair for him to spend more time with family and his interests of doing social good

Let me guess…. Under the lady mp? Mine under Derrick and frankly speaking, he did a great job considering he is 1st term mp.

Quite sad that he decided not to contest but I don’t blame him as he’s just promoted to COO for DBS and will be more busy than ever.
LBW has left big shoes to fill

but hearsay this one doesn't even fill 50% of LBW's shoes

LBW is sorely missed up till now

Many do? PAP also did many popular things that's why they keep winning? Like just some years ago, they mocked at oppo for supporting LGBT, but now they send representatives to LGBT. Not all popular issues can be solved, nor should some be solved. Like the HDB lease "problem".

I already gave you an example (LGBT) on how they will change their stand depending on the popularity right? The VERS was a vague scheme to appease the leasehold mob back then.
I don’t think LGBT issues have ever been popular to tackle in Singapore?
