The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) kicked off its second day on the campaign trail by visiting coffee shops and housing estates within Pasir Ris-Changi GRC from 10am.

Party chair Desmond Lim, accompanied by two volunteers, visited blocks along Pasir Ris Street 12 in the afternoon, where he spoke to residents at their gates and handed them party pamphlets and flags.

The party is contesting just this single constituency for GE2025, with a team comprising Mr Lim, secretary-general Abu Mohamed, communications lead Haminderpal Singh and new face Chia Yun Kai.

Mr Chia was a surprise reveal during nomination proceedings yesterday. After the polls were called, the 32-year-old had introduced himself as part of a new party called Most Valuable Party.

Mr Lim told CNA that Mr Chia's age and willingness to speak up were the main reasons for the party taking him in. SDA members are on average aged over 40.

"It is good to have people at different ages," he said. "He will express what the younger generation is feeling."

Mr Chia also champions the same values as the SDA: sincerity, honesty, compassion, fairness and justice, said Mr Lim.

His party is going up against a People's Action Party's slate led by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Desmond Tan, Mr Sharael Taha and new face Valerie Lee.

Singapore Democratic Alliance’s (SDA) new face Chia Yun Kai says his party has a good chance of winning in the upcoming polls.

The 32-year-old restaurant owner and political newcomer is part of SDA’s four-member team contesting the newly formed Pasir Ris-Changi GRC. The opposition team is helmed by SDA chairman Desmond Lim and includes secretary-general Abu Mohamed and Mr Harminder Pal Singh, the party’s communications lead.

They are up against a PAP team led by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Leader of the House Indranee Rajah. Her team comprises Mr Desmond Tan, Mr Sharael Taha and Ms Valerie Lee.

Mr Chia, who previously intended to contest under his own party, says residents are “very excited” to meet a young political newcomer.

“They were quite welcoming… and they also voiced out their concerns,” he says, speaking to reporters at a coffee shop in Pasir Ris during a walkabout this afternoon. “They think that we have a good chance of winning,” he adds.

“It is an uphill battle, but… if we can address their concerns, then we will probably be able to win.”

竞选海报用漫画，不用候选人头像呈现，新加坡民主联盟白沙—樟宜竞选团队希望通过插画反映社会议题和人民心声。

角逐白沙—樟宜集选区的民主联盟团队星期五（4月25日）在选区内张挂的竞选海报格外引人注目。和一般印有候选人头像的海报不同，该党的海报通过漫画反映一些民生议题。不同的海报呈现的画面包括白发驼背的老人清理小贩中心的碗碟、收集废弃的纸壳等；或是穿衬衫打领带的上班族不堪房屋、医疗等生活开销重压的漫画描绘。

民主联盟主席林睦荃与另一名白沙—樟宜集选区候选人谢昀恺于星期五午餐时分，在巴西立六道第443座组屋楼下的咖啡店走访居民。他接受《联合早报》访问时说：“作为一个以民为本的政党，我们的首要职责就是反映人民的心声。插画系列的竞选海报有多个版本，重点聚焦在‘有尊严的养老’与‘夹心层的经济压力’两个议题。”

对于是否担心选民认不出候选人，林睦荃回应：“我们今天下午就会陆续张贴印有候选人头像的海报。分阶段投放，也是我们整体竞选策略的一部分。”

除了“海报策略”，林睦荃也透露，民主联盟竞选团队这两天或将更换制服颜色，从亮绿色换成蓝色。他解释道：“绿色象征自然，新加坡一直是一座与自然共存的城市，但近年来，随着城市发展，许多绿地被清除；而蓝色则代表我们是‘true blue’（地道的）新加坡人。”

他指出，新加坡应欢迎高素质的外来人才，但也必须有节制。他不担心蓝色制服与工人党“撞色”，认为“只要是为新加坡人挺身而出，大家都可以穿蓝色”。

谈及总理公署部长兼财政部及国家发展部第二部长英兰妮从丹戎巴葛集选区转战白沙—樟宜，林睦荃说：“这是人民行动党的策略，我不便评论。”不过他强调，自己之所以有信心参选，是因为多年深耕基层、服务选民，例如在伊莱雅路（Elias Rd）第614座组屋楼下长期派发免费晚餐，让年长居民在减轻生活负担的同时，也能有机会与邻里交流互动。

It’s not the Workers’ Party — but the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) in a new hue.

Mr Desmond Lim, the party’s chair, told me they’ve left behind their neon green shirts as there’s now less greenery in Singapore.

“But blue is because we’re true blue Singaporeans,” he said, adding that red and blue have been the SDA logo’s colours to start with.

Fellow Pasir Ris-Changi GRC candidate Abu Mohamed added: “We also have the heart to serve and want to help the true blue Singaporeans.”

They’ve also started bringing on their walkabouts a backpack with a screen displaying pictures of SDA’s candidates and party logo.

“We’ve got to try new things,” said Mr Lim.

The SDA team is up against a PAP lineup led by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah.
