Opposition candidates arrive at counting centres

Some opposition candidates were seen making their way into counting centres after polling closed at 8pm.

WP candidate for Punggol GRC, Mr Harpreet Singh, was spotted arriving at Yusof Ishak Secondary School. When asked how he was feeling, he said: “We’ve run a good race.”

SDP chairman Paul Tambyah arrived at Zhenghua Primary School - one of the three counting centres for Bukit Panjang SMC where he is contesting - at around 8.18pm.

PPP secretary-general Goh Meng Seng and fellow Tampines GRC team member Arbaah Haroun were earlier spotted arriving at St. Hilda's Secondary School, while SPP secretary-general Steve Chia arrived at Raffles Girls’ School.

Ballot boxes sealed after polls closed

At polling stations across the island, election officials were seen sealing ballot boxes after voting hours ended.

At Serangoon Community Club, presiding officers were seen placing ballot boxes into plastic bags.

Election officials were also seen packing the ballot boxes at the Housing Board pavilion at Block 208 Woodleigh Link and the void deck of Block 608 Clementi West Street 1 at 8.10pm.

Ballot boxes arrive at counting centres

Election officials were seen handing ballot boxes to police officers at the carpark beside Block 608 Clementi West Street 1 at 8.30pm. The boxes were loaded onto a bus headed to a designated counting centre.

At Jurong Pioneer Junior College in Teck Whye, one of the principal counting centres, election officials were seen carrying ballot boxes into the building while accompanied by uniformed police officers.

At Nan Chiau High School, ballot papers for Sengkang GRC were emptied out from the ballot boxes at 8.25pm.

Boxes of voting slips from several polling stations in Eunos ward arrived at Telok Kurau Primary School at 8.35pm.

Support ‘may not be enough to push through’: PPP’s Goh Meng Seng

Flanked by fellow Tampines GRC teammate Arbaah Haroun, People’s Power Party (PPP) secretary-general Goh Meng Seng gave a brief interview shortly after arriving at St Hilda’s Secondary School at 8pm.

He said people have been supportive of the PPP’s campaign, but “that may not be enough to push through for this time round”.

His team is in a four-cornered fight in Tampines GRC against the PAP, WP and NSP. Regardless of the results, he said he will continue to build the party and contest again in the next election.
