SDP is quite a screwed up party right. So many years after CSJ took over but never even managed an NCMP seat?

yes, times have changed, lessons learnt, learn fast.

my times Friends call me Cinas, or worse Cina Babis also when we quarrel, we call them KLKs, Huan Nas, ah nehs, and more, si gi nas, but all without much bad intentions, play together in void decks and catch spiders and go canals catch crabs.

Now sensitive new age, got to be careful :D
like you said is friend call you that, you feel ok.
this one is not friend but working colleagues. will you give face if your colleague that is not friend say that to you?

The SDP candidate reminded me a little of Lee Bee Wah, very "aunty"-like, candid, sometimes funny, but also quite direct in a way that might offend more sensitive audiences today. What worked in the past may not always sit well with a newer generation shaped by "woke" culture and heightened sensitivity.

That said, kudos to the team for taking responsibility quickly and issuing an apology for the mistake. While perhaps the remarks could have been interpreted in a broader context, it's clear it was a genuine misstep. Let's move on. We should appreciate when people own up and address matters promptly, unlike certain individual contesting in some SMC, still coming up with excuses for his lacking.

I think many in the older generation living in Singapore probably don't see anything wrong with the terms used, as we grew up hearing them in daily conversations. Personally, I wasn’t offended, to me, it felt quite normal. In the past, words like "Kelengkia", "Huan Na", "Diao Tor", "Teng Lang" were commonly used without malicious intent. It’s part of the language environment we grew up with.

I guessed times have changed, and perhaps and they probably need to be more mindful. Gen Z, who did not grow up with such terms and who are more influenced by "woke" culture and global sensitivities, might interpret them differently.

Anyway, they apologies, lets move on.

it's wokeism and Malaysian influence from 2018 at play till the younger gen has redefined the meaning of the word

i still remember growing up calling people "ah pu neh neh", and people calling me "***********" and we just laugh at it. nowadays, can only say such things within friends circle.

last time, my foreign friend asked me how we called them, i also dunno want to use the term "ang mo" a not. not knowing if they feel offended.

it is. i saw the ig she like whack him a few times. mis-read his name deliberately as elephant, then call him KLK, then wanted to say he tok yaya but stop short and lastly say wat he 27 yrs old aldy not married later mother worried or something like that. lol.
Klk I think is really an honest mistake.

Elephant should check with him if he is ok with it. It can be in his favour to get his name out. Without "baby face", I won't even remember that candidate and even now I don't remember her name.

Auntie is asking for sympathy vote so 27 liao, still not married, doesn't even have money for deposit, please help them not lose too badly...

PAP also stunned, all quiet, dunno how to whack.
Because they also didn't know this is what proper accountability, humility and apology looks like!

SDP, especially the leaders of SDP has earned my respect! 👍
More like sit back and watch while sdp ownself pwn ownself. Even many edmwers think they are hopeless now.

It’s no secret that our media landscape is influenced by certain interests. On this issue, those who are strongly pro-incumbent will likely find fault no matter what, while those who are pro-opposition may see nothing wrong.

The real question is how the middle ground will react. Will they view the situation with broader context and accept it as an honest mistake, or will they be swayed to see it negatively?
