Mr Harpreet Singh Nehal was officially unveiled as a WP candidate for the upcoming election during a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

The 59-year-old has been the managing partner of Audent Chambers law firm since 2019, and was appointed a senior counsel of the Supreme Court in 2007.

When asked why he is running for election, the Harvard Law School graduate said that the country is at a turning point, where every concerned Singaporean needs to take a step forward and speak about the issues that matter.

“I believe we must open up Singapore to meet tomorrow’s challenges; staying the same, voting for overwhelming PAP control – that is not stability, that is stagnation,” said the divorced father of four adult children.

Mr Sufyan Mikhail Putra Mohd Kamil was introduced on Saturday as one of three new candidates to WP’s GE2025 slate.

The 33-year-old, who is married, resigned as an associate director of a community-based law firm to contest in the election.

“I strongly believe in the value of having a balanced political system where no one party has an absolute monopoly on talent and ideas,” he said, adding that if he is elected, he will speak on “immediate concerns” such as cost-of-living pressures, and will champion for alternative revenue channels for the now-increased goods and services tax to alleviate these pressures in this economic climate.

“At my core, I believe that we, as an alternative voice, have a responsibility to speak truth to power, and to play our role as the alternate bench in Parliament actively, and to put forth viable policy positions in the spirit of alleviating these pressures from our fellow citizens.”

Since May 2024, he has been a regular Meet-The-People Session case writer in the Kaki Bukit ward of Aljunied GRC.

WP candidate introduction: Jasper Kuan Hon Whye, Asia-Pacific product lead for disputes solutions

Mr Jasper Kuan Hon Whye, 46, was among three candidates introduced by the WP for GE2025 on Saturday.

He is the Asia-Pacific product lead for disputes solutions at Visa Worldwide, and kicked off his career in 2005 as a teacher at Catholic High School.

The father of three began volunteering with the WP in Hougang after GE2020, and served as secretariat assistant and legislative assistant to incumbent Hougang MP Dennis Tan from 2021 to 2024.

At a press conference, Mr Kuan highlighted two key issues that he cares deeply about: education and the cost of living.

He said: “I want to push for a better education system that’s more forward-looking, less stressful and more inclusive. Like many parents, I feel the struggles of raising children in Singapore’s expensive environment.

“I want to be a voice for practical and fair policies that support families and protect breadwinners.”

Workers' Party chief Pritam Singh said party renewal is an "ever ongoing" exercise, and that the WP has not spoken to other opposition parties on potential multi-cornered fights in the upcoming General Election election. Among the party's second slate of potential candidates are: Dr Ong Lue Ping, senior principal psychologist at the Institute of Mental Health; Mr Andre Low, a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group; Ms Alexis Dang, a business development director in advertising tech; and Mr Jimmy Tan, owner of an industrial safety equipment firm. Rachel Teng reports.
