Review
I had the Gear S2 since Monday. Out of the box there was a spare grey strap in case anything happen to the current one, you have one to change. Proprietary straps is a bummer, but so far it has been comfortable and doesn't look out of place at work.
Best part of so far is the battery life. Example, since this morning 9.30am I took it off the charger until now 6.30pm still rocking at 78%.
Functionality
I don't have a lot of expectation of a smartwatch, since the last time I had something on the wrist it was to tell time. Now I have something on my wrist that tells time and do more.
As a person who sits in the office a lot, it's nice having something that alerts me that I have been idle for the past hour, it's time to walk about. You can use the watch face that has a bubble to show how active to how idle you are.
Heart rate monitor also gives me a good view of how unhealthy I am, like a constant reminder I should get more exercise.
Then when the phone rings, I actually know. Like I was away from the phone and my boss called. Good thing my "watch" vibrated and alert me to it.
Rotating bezel is definitely much easier than swiping on your phone.
Application
Nothing much really.
Bloomberg so I use it to check some news snippet and my watchlist.
CNN can read some news snippet also.
Calendar can tell you what the day events are.
Nike+ -- if you have the equipment, which I don't
