Hello all,

I am planning to get a gaming desktop computer, but would require some advice.
This is my first time building and therefore I have no monitor, mouse and etc.

Should I get a pre-built one? As in those from respective brands, such as Asus etc. Or should I stick to a DIY rig and buy the necessary monitor/ mouse etc. Myself?

If I were to get DIY, where should I go to build??

Games I will be playing are: star craft 2, league of legends, scarlet blade.

Budget between $1k - $1.5k.

Help appreciated!

Thank you!

Sounds like this is not your first pc, then suggest you can be more adventurous, if you feel like it.

Brothers here will gives you suggestions on graphic cards to play your starcraft2 games.andetc.

Advantage of diy is that, repair or replacement of parts is easy.

If this is your first pc, get a dell or asus pc with graphic card for games. You can get familiar with it first before venturing into diy for your second pc.

i would say DIY parts u might have to shoulder some responsibility in terms of learning to troubleshoot any problems urself and if u happen to have faulty hardware parts u need to bring the parts to the Distro or even to SLS. Branded PC might bundle in warranties such as going down to ur house to fix the PC for u.

But DIY is definitely the way to go as folks around here will understand your needs and preferences and configure a system to your liking.

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

I'll most probably go for DIY as I intend to use it for long, and prefer it to be customizable, allowing room for future upgrades.

Any recommendations with regards to my expectations? Also, any recommendations on which shop I should go??

Suggest you buy parts from PCThemes. If you have someone who knows about hardware and SLS accompanying you, you can go Tradepac for cheaper stuff. This is for the main CPU chassis and internal components.

Some additional information would be useful:

1. Preferred monitor size and resolution?
(Any particular display feature such as 120Hz refresh rate, 3D, etc that you need?)

2. Preferred graphic settings?

3. Intention to overclock?

4. Intention to SLI/CrossFireX?

5. Are you in the Red or Green camp?

6. Is the rig used for any particular professional software and/or particular application(s) that have high hardware requirements?

Since you play SC2, have to go Intel for CPU, due to the lightly threaded nature of the game.
