Getting around tips and apps?

I have a very noob question.
I've watched a number of youtube videos on taiwan and there are a few places i would like to visit.

Like the taroko national park, hehuangshan, cingjing farm.

How do u guys know how to get to these places?
Any recommended apps when traveling in Taiwan? Like some mrt network maps or something?

taoyuan airport to taipei (most people would stay there)
taipei to taichung by hsr @ 765ntd one way is 55min...
if by bus shld be abt 3hours one way

then taichung need take bus to cingjing farm about 3 hours
else have to rent cab ... abt 3500 to 4000 ntd
taichung mainly is by bus
not as much trains as in taipei ...

After more digging. It seems nantou is a better place to stay if you're into these natural parks, trails and hiking?

U used Google maps ya.... there's distance info and driving time info as well.

The metro serves Taipei. Tariko Gorge is outside of Hualien. You can take the train, which is different from the metro, from Taipei to Hualien and make your way to Taroko Gorge.

There's the metro in Kaohsiung too. And no, metro do not link cities. The trains link cities.

You can hike at Yangminshan in Taipei. There are other places to hike within close proximity of Taipei.

You have a lot more research to do. First try to understand how big Taipei is.

Also check out the Taroko Gorge website. And if you do a Google search for 'how to get to Taroko Gorge from Taipei', there's plenty of information. And also taking time and effort to read thru past threads, you can find the info you want easily.

Search at app stores and look for
台铁，台北捷运，高雄捷运
If you can find it using Traditional Chinese will be better.

Well, Taroko Gorge is not worth a day trip from Taipei. Taroko Gorge is worth more than a day's visit. Most people do it in a day. If you really want to enjoy Taroko Gorge, spend a day or two in Hualien and do a day trip, starting early in the morning.

And if it's your first visit to Taiwan and you don't want to stress over it, there's plenty to see, do and hike/trek in Taipei itself. So it may be good to just make Taipei your base.

A few good place to hike will be YangMingshan, elephant hill(Near to City Hall),
無耳茶壺山登山步道。

It all depends on the weather and do prepare a rain jacket.

there are public buses serving these places, but most of them have only one service per day. unless you intend to spend many days in taiwan, i suggest you concentrate on one area.

if i were you, i would take bus up to mt hehuan if it's not snowing, spend a few days there, then continue by bus to lishan or wuling farm, spend a few more days, then return by bus to taipei via yilan. doing it in reverse direction would be better to avoid mountain sickness..
