Getting camera backpack

Hello guys! I need advise and suggestion on backpack for my dslr.
Currently using 5million crumpler.

thinking of getting Think Tank or KATA.

using it for putting in 15inch laptop and other camera stuff.
not getting Vanguard as the quality is dropping much.

I've given up doing so. Changed all my laptop backpacks to normal backpacks.

i agree.. but i'm using mainly for camera usage. laptop is just extra compartment when i needed to use for work. it would be more pain if i carry it both in different bag

How about at least tell us what amount of gears you intend the bag to carry... knowning how much stuff you need the bag to carry will make giving suggestions easier...

Try F-Stop mountain series bags. They are amazing with removable ICUs (Internal Camera Unit) that you can purchase according to the amount of gear that you have. You can remove the ICU and the backpack converts into a normal backpack.

Mountain Series have a 20 year warranty too. Not cheap but once you get it, imo, you won't be looking at others!

I got myself a F-Stop Loka and 2 ICUs (1 small and 1 medium pro).

Gonna buy a new zoom lens 17-55 or 24-70mm

An LED light about the size of note 2 and thicker
A short tripod with max heigh of 1m

That's basically similar to my old gear and they all fit into my old Lowepro Fastpack 250!

40D / 17-55 / 50 1.8 / 70-200L IS / 580ex2 flash / laptop / accessories. Sirui tripod can be stuffed at the side pocket and secured with an elastic band.

yes i'm looking at fastpack, also recently found KATA DL-LPS-216 helps too.. just without the side pocket or suits for tripod.

does Fastpack quality can protect during heavy rain? because there was one incident it suddenly rain and there wasnt any shelter around and i had to ran under rain for a good 5 mins.

Haven't had the opportunity/unluckiness to get caught in a heavy downpour. But was in soft snowfall in Hokkaido for 30min or so and the Fastpack held up fine.

Now after adding a 70D body and an additional flash and extender, I feel that I have outgrown the Fastpack, hence I bought a F-Stop Loka bag instead. Amazing quality, 20year warranty, light aluminum frame that is removable, can swap out the ICUs if I expand or shrink my gear, depending on the location and also with space for a 13" laptop and clothes. Can add a hydration pack, rain cover, etc. It is the perfect backpack for me.

I can remove the ICU and it becomes a full fledged backpack or place either the small or medium ICU (I bought both) depending on the gear. My Loka can fit both small and medium ICUs, if needed. The bag can still fit in the overhead compartment of a plane or bus and if I am forced to check in the bag, I can remove the ICU quickly and handcarry the ICU with me instead. Looks understated and does not scream CAMERA!

Downside to the F-Stop? It is expensive! S$388 for the Loka and about S$100 per ICU, depending on size. Rain cover is optional and gatekeepers are S$28/pc.

But after saying all that, it is, to me, the ultimate backpack. Now's the best time to get one because F-Stops are having a 10% discount.

Not a salesperson, but just wanting to share the best camera backpack I have seen or researched.

I'm currently in HK so gonna check it out in Sim City here. but I'm still a student so therefore gonna get fastpack 250. No harm checking it out, next time might get F-stop if it's good

Just sharing:

I own a Kata 3N1-33, and have been using it whenever I travel. Comes with rain cover. S$175, Parisilk, 3 years back. See this

Spacious, can hold quite a fare bit of equipment, and I like the top where I can place some items I frequently use.
I also bought the tripod holder that's supposed to go in front, right at the center but have given up using it. Makes the bag too heavy center down --> tends to pull me back. Now I just strap up my tripod and carry it at the side.

One good worth mentioning: it fits underneath the plane's seats (surprise surprise!).
