Getting connected to wireless@sgx without my input

So I turn on my WiFi 24/7 ever since my first phone which is a galaxy s2 and only until a few days ago did I start encountering this weird issue asp topic.

Currently on:
Huawei p30 pro
Circles.life

Phone is new, Sim card was delivered to me 2 days ago.

No need for me to key in login or password even tho the wireless@sgx is encrypted. It will successfully auto connect by itself.

I went into my WiFi settings, disconnected and forget the wireless@sgx network profile, thinking that would solve the problem.

But no, the moment I get into another hotspot it will connect again automatically!

I've spoken to both singtel(where I registered initially donkey years ago) and circles.life Cso. Both were as puzzled as me and couldn't give me an answer.

I tried disabling Google backup thinking they were saving my WiFi profile, but nope, still happening.

The only info I have atm is that wireless@sgx uses sim as the eap method. I do not know what that means but I assume it has something to do with the sim card?

My network selection is auto (preferred network: circles) if it helps.

Any advice from the gurus here? I do not want to turn off my WiFi if I can help it. Thanks!

Download the wireless sgx manual configuration guide and configure your phone to sim should fixed the issue

TS, what are you trying to achieve here ? It is working properly as per intended. For Wireless@SGx, here is no user intervention required.

What’s the difference between Wireless@SG and Wireless@SGx?
Answer: he Wireless@SGx network is more secure as it uses industry-based authentication and security standards (i.e. IEEE 802.1x and Wi-Fi Alliance), and data sent over Wireless@SGx network is encrypted. In addition, Wireless@SGx allows users to log in automatically (there is no need for username or password) after an initial one-time setup. Wireless@SG requires users to log in via a browser every time.

Sorry for not being clear - I don't want it to auto connect. I've tried disconnecting and forgetting the wireles@sgx network, but everytime Im in the vicinity of a hotspot, it will magically auto connect to wireless@sgx.

Not possible. If you forget a wireless network from your phone, it would definitely never reconnect by itself

Well unless I'm living in a dream world or I'm doing it wrong, it's definitely possible with my phone.

Just to be sure, I'll recount my steps for you: Settings > WiFi > 3 dots at the top right > Settings > saved networks > long press 'wireless@sgx' > forget

Let me know if this is not the correct step.

Huawei p30 Pro on android 10, default EMUI rom

I'm leaning towards some sort of backup or sync causing this but the only backup I'm aware of is Google. And I've tried disabling that as one of my troubleshooting method, nada.

If all else fails I guess I'll do a network reset followed by a full reset.

Googled for the method and scan through all my settings related to WiFi / network, unfortunately it seems like my phone does not have this option.

what's wrong with autoconnect to wireless@sgx? its supposed to save your mobile data

In certain places it is very slow, say, in Jurong Bus Interchange (Jurong Point).

It is the same for Singtel WiFi. Right now I still keep Wireless@Sgx but I chose not to use Singtel Wifi any more (super slow in Jurong Point now).

Occassionally I have to disable WiFi and use Data to use TraceTogether in Jurong Point because of the weak wireless@sgx.

On the other hand, I have no problem to forget "wireless@sgx" with my Huawei P20 phone. It is just I have enabled it back. wireless@sgx seems to be okay in Pioneer CC.

ah ok. makes sense. usually i just turn off the wifi for my entire device when i encounter slow wireless@sgx, but i guess "forgetting" wireless@sgx also works until there is another carrier provisioning update..

edit: checking the wireless@sgx location list, jurong point isnt listed. most probably the weak signal is due to stray wifi connection from nearby mcdonalds etc, which is managed by singtel. Singtel should exercise discretion and increase the minimum MCS data rate and reduce transmit power to prevent this issue as high volume of people walk past

One issue with public WiFi is you get connected but no internet access. This happen very frequently with wireless@sgx. Guess from the route to backend link is not working.

If you fall into this situation and phone is not smart enough to switch back to mobile data. All up traffic eg WhatsApp messages will be delayed till you get access to internet world again.

route to backend problem has been eliminated already. what you are experiencing is most probably no internet due to captive portal. you need to forget the wireless@sg network from your device so that it will default to w@sgx network. also install eap-sim profile as necessary. most problems connecting and utilising wireless@sgx are due to "user problem" and not the network instead. imda has been very strict about the SLA for this

FYI, wireless@sgx I mentioned is at Jurong Bus Interchange inside Jurong Point, managed by M1.

Jurong Point also has its own free wifi services which I do not use.

Yes I just turn off wifi in this case as I still use wireless@sgx at some other places. But I was using the forget method previously for some time.

I am still on Singtel Combo 2 with Data x 3 add-on, so I only have 6GB data. But it is proved to be enough for now. So I may choose to forget wireless@sgx completely.

Nonsense, not user problem, instead, you got problem understanding/using. you got switch on both wifi (wireless@sg) and mobile data at the same time or not ? :s11: try it out yourself when you go to malls when using qr code to check in.

I get similar problems, phone auto connects to wifi when you approach places like malls etc but the network is unusable (too congested, signal too weak but the phone tries to use it anyway, no external route etc). Ordinarily this would just be a minor annoyance, some messages might get delayed and you'll just receive them a bit later. Often you have poor signal as your approaching/entering the premises (edge of signal area, lots of users trying to connect at once), but once inside it becomes faster and more stable so you only get a momentary delay as you approach the place.

But with safeentry it's now become a significant nuisance at times since it prevents you checking in, and you have to turn off wifi and try again.

It is possible and I kept getting the same thing as OP. It's bloody annoying.

Forgetting does not seem to work. This is a security flaw.

This is wrong. I hate such profiles and nonsense and I will never sign up or install any profiles like this but it is auto-connecting still. The profile could be embedded into the ISP.

my phone does not autoconnect at all (oneplus6, formerly singtel, now circles.life). same for previous samsung, oneplus, oppo, and Redmi models.

possibly disabling either/both of these toggles in wifi settings may help:
- Scanning always available
- Open network notification
