Ran gpu z and the card in x16 slot shows that it's running at x1. Is that normal as in it's at x1 when not running graphic intensive applications or is my card not seated properly. The graphics card holders in my casing don't snap shut on the card properly.

Witcher 3 with everything maxed out runs smoothly. 3dmark vantage score seems pretty ok but it should be at x16 and not x1 right?

Which slot did you plug it in? Not all PCI-E slots are x16 even though the plastic brace is full-length. You can check the MB manual, or physically inspect the number of pins.

Usually, the first one is x16. The rest might not be (unless it's some ATX MB meant for SLI).

First slot. Actually i encountered this before but i'm just surprised it managed to run applications smoothly even at x1?

Run 3dmark in window mode. Then launch gpu-z to see.

are u on balanced power mode? or high performance.

Balanced

simplest way is to click on the little question mark on the right of what you have circled to run the built in render test, and you should see it go up to x16. while you are at it, why don't you install the latest GPU-Z v1.12.0?

https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2823/techpowerup-gpu-z-v1-12-0

Tried it liao. Rendering and still stays at x1.

Reason why i didn't update gpuz is cos my version is released after the gtx970 so it means that the info on the 970 won't be wrong and d/led latest gpu-z and still same issue.

Changed to high just ran the small rendering test provided by gpu-z and stayed at x1. What is confusing is i ran 3d marks vantage earlier and the score comes up similar to old scores. Didn't notice any slow down in games.

Encountered this problem last time too but big diff was graphics rendering was significantly slowed down when it was at x4 and x1 but at x8 it was ok and it was stuck at x1 not pci x2. Right now it shows x1 but at x2 hopefully you know what i mean.

it doesn't work like that. it reads both mb and gpu bios/chipset/internal measurements.

can list your gfx manufacturer, bios and driver version, mb manufacturer and bios version.

please update everything. if the bios is stock then leave it. your subvendor is weird, your driver is weird. looks generic, suspect is old/incompatible driver/bios/win10.

other than that, could be those older misreporting bugs.
