Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. Im actually using the Alienware X51 R2 so i cant use dual high end cards. Im using the ZOTAC GTX 970 now actually but it runs 80C under load so im actually looking for a reference 970 with single blower fan to trade.

Was actually looking at the 960 because the TDp is amazingly low hence its better for my set up. I actually dont require a super high end card cause im playing diablo 3 and CS most of the time. All high end games are played on console.

Overpriced for its performance. Could have used that money to buy a r9 280x with a higher performance. But however even the 280x is not value for money.

Is either to go 280 or go 970.

Yes makes sense.
2 x GTX960 = GTX 980 based on the reviews of SLI Asus GTX 960 (USD 209x2= 418)

Can your X51 R2 run the GTX970 efficiently? I'm also considering this.

Yes it runs awesome. The PNY reference 970 is recommended on the Dell website. You have to ensure that yours is the R2 version plus the 330 watt psu. A YouTuber even overclocked his 970 although that's not recommended.

Can consider transferring your parts to a new casing, then can fit large gpu

Mine is 4770 + 760TI. I suppose it's 330W. May I know why you wanna downgrade?

downgrade? well not exactly. my Zotac has twin fans and some X51 users have reported that twin fans just circulate hot air in the already small space on the case. having a single blower would actually blow the hot air out instead. right now im running on 74-80c while on load but that's just Diablo 3. God knows how high if i play far cry hence why im actually looking for a reference 970.

the alternative is to do a case mod when i reverse the front fan. but that's another hassle altogether.

there are some small form factor cases u can consider. they fit large psu and gpu. Corsair Air 240 is an example. i transferred my acer xc605 to new casing and my lord, i realised what i've been missing out.

Yup true. Saw some vids on Youtube too. Will definitely get into it either year end of next year. The X51 is ideal right now for me as a console gamer trying out PC gaming without having to change the configuration of my overall gaming set up (couch PC gaming on a 47" LG). Still recovering from the cost of buying and upgrading my X51. Once I got enough disposable income to buy a monitor, proper chair and table, then it's time to say good bye to my X51 case!

Actually, simplest solution is open up the casing and use it without casing. Should really cool down the temperatures a lot.
