Anyone else getting artifacts/black screens ever since using the newer nvidia 344.xx drivers? Namely the 344.75 one. Games and even browsers/desktop will start to show artifacts suddenly and eventually monitor will flash black and show an error saying "the nvidia openGL driver lost connection with the display"

MSI GTX 580 twinfrozr, 1920x1080, no OC

So far so good on the new drivers with GTX 980m. Can TS advise GPU model and display so others HWZ folks can help better?

Newer drivers are not recommended for old graphics cards.

Your gfx card is over 3years old.

Either upgrade your gfx card or downgrade your drivers.

I'm using a 560ti. Had the same issue with the open gl crashing. Card unable to be detected after rr need to reseat.

Thought the card was dead at first so bought replacement already. Will roll back drivers and inform you

I encountered similar issue but it's on my Alienware laptop too.

Screen displays artifacts upon Windows 8.1 startup and I have to roll back to 311.45 to maintain stability. The GPU is a GTX765M.

I did a driver wipe using the DDU software, rolled back to my older stable version. Still getting the problem. Seriously did the driver just ****ing spoil my GPU?

I know my GPU is old, although it is still quite decent. I wasnt planning to upgrade my PC or anything for a long time now. Considering i dropped so much on a 580 back then, I'm quite pissed off that a simple driver upgrade would spoil a card.

Problem isn't limited to when games are being run. I've had this artefact/black screen crashing problems when simply browsing the web (watching youtube/facebook). Seems like playing videos is also triggering the GPU to fail.

Seems like my PC doesn't crash itself into a forced reboot any more, but what happens now is that my screen would start showing artefacts, the sound would go slightly fuzzy but my mouse is still able to be moved around at a low frame rate despite the screen being frozen. End up having to force reboot to get back to the desktop.

rolled back drivers. when rolling back, bsod...

Looks like we're on the same boat considering our GPU is more or less the same era. The 344.75 driver really ****ed up the cards somehow.

Just wish there was a way to diagnose if it really is a problem with the GPU now.

Are you roughly experiencing the same errors as me?

I think most likely the latest drivers screwed up and destroyed your gfx card.

last resort is do a clean up uninstall your drivers and install the last good drivers which is 337.88.

install every single driver which is available from nvidia AND hope it works well. if not then it's time to rma if under warranty.

Ok lah. 4 years is an eternity for graphics card. Well worth the investment already.

Time to get yourself a nice brand new GTX 980 as an early xmas present.

Merry Christmas. :)
