Programmers bore the brunt of Microsoft’s layoffs in its home state as AI writes up to 30% of its code

Coders were hit hardest among Microsoft’s 2,000-person layoff in its home state of Washington, Bloomberg reports.

Over 40% of the people laid off were in software engineering, making it by far the largest category, Bloomberg found based on state filings. Relatively few sales or marketing positions were affected, Bloomberg added.

think next time...programmer job will be more of an admin job

Not surprising mah. Afterall, Coding/programming is just click click & copy paste, most of time.

AI shld be able to do abt 80% of the job.

This role is no longer a unicorn position.

Saying copy paste is easy, but those who aren't familiar they still can't write proper code even with help of AI, its still beyond the reach of regular human beings, such as Admins, Finance Officers, and HR.

Besides, coding is just a small part of development, in reality the scope is way larger scale and you actually need to know how to code and understand development concepts + software & system architecture :s13:.

There's a reason why specialized tech jobs are still the most in demand after even with all these layoffs, the cognitive demand is high and not many people can do it :s13:.
