SINGAPORE – Changi General Hospital (CGH) and Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) are seeing a high number of patients at their emergency departments, and this has resulted in longer waiting times.

Only people with serious or life-threatening emergencies should go to its emergency department, both hospitals said on May 14 in separate social media posts.

This allows medical professionals to attend to those with critical conditions and in need of emergency care.


CGH and SKH urged those experiencing mild to moderate symptoms like cough, sore throat, or runny nose, to visit general practitioners (GPs) or Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPCs). Members of the public can find a PHPC at www.phpc.gov.sg.

In a notice on its website, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) said that there are longer than usual waiting times at the emergency department, and that admission may require a few hours.

ST has contacted the Ministry of Health for more information.

Should be highlighted with cartoon posters at public places (bus-stops, MRT stations, etc) or reminded more fluently in the MSM for public awareness now.

becoz now polyclinic u wan go see doctor need book 1 day before, walk in tell u cannot see for today, what to do, only can go a&e or go private.

They entertain walk-in but u cannot be too late becoz those who register early will backlog till after lunch.

I have walked in at 8am, saw doctor at 12+ before lunch.

Yet medical school every year reject perfect 90 point ppl, then employ FT doctors even from those neighboring countries.

Reason medical school not expanding as fast as possible is cuz they say not enough senior doctors to teach juniors. Such lame excuse when can hire temporary ones. Then pioneer gen doctors started off how sia, no senior doctors in the beginning anyway.

Another lame excuse is not enough vacancy in hospital so no point having more doctors yet the queue so long and doctors are overworked. Hospital admin want jiak profit while squeezing margins.

This is a problem that can solved but they don't want to cuz the ones benefiting will be low ses ppl so it's a waste of money.

More hospitals are being built and current hospitals are expanding bed space to accommodate a growing silver population.

But all these takes time. Most would say on hindsight that the government should have seen this coming and start expanding bed space even before covid.

But when bed occupancy is low in the absence of pandemic, then all these are sunk / opportunity cost.

Polyclinic shd open 12hr daily, like production line or hawkers. Why now still operating like army camp, 5pm book out.

Just have 2 12 hour shifts. 8am to 8pm and 8pm to 8am. Does the police stop work at 5pm? Does the army stop work at 5pm? Why does the health system stop work at 5pm?
