Gmail set up in a Mac...

OK, I got a new Mac, set up one of my gmail accounts in it very easily but I was a bit surprised when all of my emails from that account all came into my mac.

Because I'm a iPhone, iPad user I was expecting just the last 50 or so to come in. Is there a way to set up either gmail or Mac to handle it just like the iPad and iPhone?

go to settings filter to top 50 mails
