I am currently in my ptp phase at Tekong and going to bmt later. So I was thinking of getting into ocs except not in army. And also I got a uni place in criminology. One of the oc told me that if you get a into a uni placing in one of the local 5 unis, you are likely a candidate into ocs as long as you don't **** up like do problem or fail ippt and bmt. So is there a way I can get into oct via ocs route in Tekong? Honestly I don't want be Sergeant Tekan here Tekan there. Not my style. I put welfare of my soldiers first before anything.

Sorry but I am going to break your heart cause that OC is bull.shitting to you.

My brother was from enhance leadership BMT. He secured a place in NUS with his SP Diploma in merit (GPA 3.9+++) & CCA Gold with Hons. If he trained, he will get Gold & if he does not trained, he get Silver for IPPT even if he had ORD for more then 4 years.

Can you guess what is his vocation after POP? He was posted to AETI to train as a Technician. Majorly of his platoon mates from enhance leadership BMT end up becoming a man.

Anybody who's in "leadership" batch has met the minimum criteria to be selected for OCS.

Having a place in one of the 5 local universities doesn't necessary mean you will likely get into OCS. It may increase your chance but is not guaranteed. Cause I'm pretty certain there are more people who got placing in local universities than there are places for OCS.

Not having problems is definitely helpful.

Passing IPPT is definitely helpful.

Not failing BMT is helpful too cause if you fail, you cannot even pass out much less going to OCS.

And if you think sergeant is just tekan here tekan there, then you are not even fit to be a sergeant much less an officer.

If you want to confirm your path to be an OCT, then signing on is the best bet.

But all the officer are the total opposite of the sergeants. They don't scold, they teach slowly and are super helpful and friendly. The sergeants, some can't even joke with them. So from you say is not certain but got chance right?

Obviously you have not met enough officers and sergeants before coming to that conclusion. That's a very naive view of you and I'm doubting your fit to even be a commander when you have such a view.

Everybody has a chance who are in leadership batch has a chance of going OCS. Whether the circumstances you are in increases your chance, we wouldn't know for sure. But that also doesn't mean anything.

as long as u are under leadership batch (this is based on being PES A/B and having diploma or A levels), u are being shortlisted for command school (SCS or OCS).

whether u are being selected to enter either of the schools or not depends on your SIT test and even vocational test, including your training performance during BMT (range, IPPT, field camp etc).

dont be so naive that officers are the only ones who care for the welfare of the soldiers. officers are responsible for the men including specialists. they are also responsible if recruits and even specialists under them were to AWOL or has committed any disciplinary actions be it thru breach of military or civil law.

specialists are the ones who report to these officers and the officers are the one reporting to the senior officers, management, military court or even the ministry.

specialists are the ones responsible to train u, not to coax u.

officers are the ones responsible for the company's training outcome.

whether if is your style or not, is not for u to say or decide. if this can be decided by u, when can't enlistees decide whether they can be enlisted or not? similarly, u cant decide if u are born into this world as a male or female.

why can't just take whatever it comes along? unless u do not trust the way how Mindef manages its selection of officers and specialists.

at least for your batch, u can choose the kind of vocation u would like to undertake during your stint. last time there wasn't such a privilege.

conclusion, don't complain.

BMT life & Unit Life in Army is different.

In BMT, sergeant is not your friend but instructor to train you both physical and mentally. Sergeant 'bully' you maybe order by your officer who hypocrite smile and be good to you.

In unit, sergeant (section commander) are your friend and they behave like man but they are appointment holder who are accountable for their section.

But all the officer are the total opposite of the sergeants. They don't scold, they teach slowly and are super helpful and friendly. The sergeants, some can't even joke with them. So from you say is not certain but got chance right?

My brother is from enhanced leadership batch & majorly of them end up posted to become a man instead of command school.

So I don't think enhanced leadership batch mean have higher chance or even guarantee to go command school.

He's not talking about higher chance. it's talking about meeting the barebones requirements to even have a chance.

think u misinterpreted it...

i'm talking about getting into the desired "vocation" after making the cut to go to OCS... not finding an easier way to get into OCS..

a lot of people i know of are like that lol.

and every single person whom i knew who entered ocs refused to sign on as officer after getting in. Some wanted to at the start.

I assume they realised in ocs somehow that life in the saf was absolute dog shet or something -_-

But then again apparently this also means that you dont sign on during your cadet time i guess. Maybe only after commissioning. not sure really.
