Hi all,

intending to book a roughly 10 day trip to Osaka/Kyoto/Nara with family of 4 on the 16th of February. Problem is that the flight reach Kansai airport at 2120 and my dad is worried that we will not be able to get any public transport if there are any delays whatsoever. Any suggestions?

Also, want to ask if anybody can recommend any must-go/must-eat places in the area of Osaka or nearby?

First time going, so a bit nervous.

That's SQ616's timing rt? I took that flight a few months ago, by the time I cleared custom it was only 2145. SQ and Japanese custom both very efficient. Anyway, if you miss your bus, you can take other airport buses to Namba station/city and from there take a taxi. I am assuming your hotel is near that area so the taxi ride from the train station wont be that expensive. That last bus I was told is as late as 12am or later.

Heh, I'll be taking SQ616 as well, but arriving Osaka 1 day before you. :)
For Osaka, the usual areas are Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi area, Osaka castle, Aquarium, Universal Studios, maybe Nissin Cup Noodle museum...

U can try Ichiran ramen at Dotonbori if you want to try ramen. It's quite a popular chain.
See my blogpost of my visit to Ichiran Ramen at Dotonbori in Osaka:
Go Away, Sam...: Japan (Oct2013): Day 2: Osaka.

Also, if you want to try king crab cuisines, you might want to consider going to Kani Doraku chain of restaurants. They have branches in Kyoto and Osaka as well.

Yeah, i'd prefer to start off by walking from Shinsaibashi station (with stores like Daimaru and Tokyu Hands near the station) from late afternoon, then slowly shop towards Dotonbori area in the evening. There are some shops at Dotonbori which opens 24hrs (like Don Quijote store, as well as Ichiran Ramen).

If u are buying those 2days or 3 days rail pass at the kansai airport, u may need to add another 20 to 30mins Of browsing around. Unless u have done yr homework.

I spent total about 45mins queeing at the post office to collect my bmoile sim card and buying railpass at the kansai travel agency.

Weather for the past few days very good.
Today around 12 to 15degree.

Dotonbori has a lot of awesome food! Must-tries are takoyaki and okonomiyaki.

There are a lot of shops around for both. My personal favourite for Takoyaki is Osaka Honke Takoyaki. It's located beside a bridge along the Dontonbori street. <Link>

A good place for Okonomiyaki is Chibo (千房), an okonomiyaki restaurant chain in Japan. It's located along the main street, a few doors down the bridge to Shisaibashi and the huge crab iirc. You won't miss it. ^^

There was a crepe stall located on your left as you walk down Shinsaibashi. Don't know if it's still there but it's quite nice. Can't really get such soft and sweet crepes in Singapore.

Sorry to hijack this thread, need some help on Osaka too..

Was trying to book accomodation near Dotonburi area but the ones my friends recommended doesn't have rm vacancies anymore.

Can I request for some recommendations here? There are 3 of us, 2 males+1female, we don't mind to split room if need be as long is cheap & good. We are going on 3 Apr (staying 2nights, before heading to Kyoto on 5th)

May I ask also if I should get JR Pass if I'm using this route:-

Haneda Airport - Osaka - Kyoto - Five Lakes (Foot of Mt Fuji) - Hakone - Tokyo - Narita Airport

If your trip from Tokyo to Osaka, Kyoto, Fuji Five Lakes, Hakone, then back to Tokyo falls within 7 days, then yes, you should get the 7days JR Pass (28,300yen). However JR Pass doesn't cover the transportation within Hakone (eg. Tram, ropeway, cruise...etc) and for those, you will have to get the Hakone Free Pass.

There's a few international chains nearby like Intercontinental and Hilton. Westin is also near.

You can take a train from the airport that will drop you right in Namba. There are several tourist "train+mrt" packages that you can buy at the airport, and are well worth the money.

I would spend more time in Kyoto than Osaka or Nara, maybe 4 days, 3 days and 2 days respectively, with 1 extra day buffer.
