I don't think of where to go. I just go to TripAdvisor for some interesting ideas. That was years ago.. Now I know where to go, and how to get there. I don't rush. I take my own sweet time.

For meals, I eat whatever the locals eat...wanton noodles, cai png, drink their kopi there. When I felt thirsty and hot, I stopped over for chendol. I simply "lived" there as if I was a local speaking Cantonese or Mandarin. Then when I want to splurge, I checked which hotel had a biffet dinner and walked in.
This is what I do at Subang KL too.
Went hiking.. then return hotel.. took bath, rest. Evening time, walk over to Indian restaurant to hv brayani, Nan, puri.... eat n relax. Then went to swimming.....it simply free n easy..do what you like..

Malaysia is not difficult to get around. And there are coffee shops everywhere just like Singapore. Inside their shopping malss are food courts.

Unless you are from Thailand, Japan, China, or some western country, and are scared to lose your way, I think for Singaporeans, there is no need to follow a tour............except for the very elderly who have mobility issues and if they have some medical issues, like a fall, or sudden heart pain, there is the tour guide to fetch them to hospital, or call for an ambulance for them.

Even when I went to Thailand and China, I went free and easy. Bangkok is easy to navigate with their BRT and boat taxis. China has a very good metro service, and I can read Chinese, so sometimes, I even took the public buses. There's a directory at the bus stops showing which bus service goes to where...similar to what we have in Singapore, for eg Bus 51 goes to Chinatown, Bus 143 goes to Toa Payoh Interchange. But if you want to have organised activities like watching acrobatic shows, dancing, visits to Chinese medicine store, jade shops, and communal dinner, a tour package is for you. For me, I travel as though I was a local who's off work on Saturday, go to Plaza Singapura or Vivocity, walk walk see see look look, eating at wherever locals eat...even eat KFC there. Lol!

worth it. i chiong until fall sick but still worth it.

the only place i don't chiong is australia/nz and south east asia. australia & nz very relaxed and got no nightlife and SEA can revisit anytime

go europe sure chiong one cause it is so far and high chance you won't be revisiting the same city again

i would say everything is expensive now.

You need to decide where you want to go, find out how to go, and take your own sweet time. Have breaks in between to eat, drink, relax your feet. Don't chiong. More is less, Less is more.

Many years ago, I went on an Europe tour. Like you, I wanted to cover as many cities as possible. Like jiak buffet. Must make my time and money worth it, so I thought.

Ended up, half the time, I was on the coach on long distance rides from one city to another, or from one place to another within the city.

So when we reached the city, the coach would drive us straight to the spot to take photos. It's touch and go. Then another coach ride to somewhere for meals, followed by another spot for photo taking, and then another ride to somewhere again for dinner, and it's hotel. Next morning, it's everybody gather here, at hotel lobby, eat breakfast at hotel coffee house, and gather here, altogether! go to the coach, and it's a long journey to another city. When I came back to Singapore, all I had were photos of me in France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, England in which I spend an hour taking photos here and there, eight hours sleeping in the hotel room, six hours sitting inside the coach listening to the tour guide tell stories.. 🤣
