hi all, recently jumped ship from the bandwagon of the apple iPhones, to Galaxy Nexus.

As Im totally new to andriod, would like to seek advices to what I should do for a start with andriod phones?

TIA ...

If you like playing around with stuff then its better to know how to unlock bootloader and install clockwork Mod recovery manually rather than use the tool. Go to XDA forum and look under Galaxy Nexus development sub forum, what you are looking for is guide to unlock boot loader, flash clockwork mod CWR and root via fast boot. Its all in 1 thread. With this knowledge, you will understand better on flashing custom Rom.

A quick link to all the files you need to unlock, flash CWR and root is here. However, the steps has no proper explanation.

My advice to you is not to root..get to know the phone as original form..play with it..get yourself familiar with Android..start enjoying side loading (manual installing) of application without going through Google Play..

I would say Galaxy Nexus without rooting is more than sufficient for general /ordinary users.

After rooting, you will enjoy higher flexibility but there is always higher risk associated with it. If you find it too hard to understand on the rooting..then better stay away with it..

Before trying out any rooting /flashing (especially risky on bootloader/radio/recovery).. read the forum threads to ensure there is high successful rate without huge side effect.. or the first thing to ask should be..can I revert or escape path to restore to stock...

you're right. However he should be able to handle it unless he is a total tech idiot and extremely unlucky.
