So for me currently still on Desire, Nexus would be a good phone to upgrade to? But One X and SII/SIII is really making me undecided :(

Get Nexus if you like flashing custom roms or kernels and stuff, there are great dev support.

HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy SIII will be more future-proof due to the quad core. Have played around with the HTC One X, their screen is much much better than my Nexus Samoled HD. But HTC is still very restricted with unlocking their bootloader even until now. So if you are those who like to flash custom rom or need root access to theme your phone, you will have to stay away from HTC. And this time round, they are very efficient with their software support, quick update for any known bugs

Galaxy SIII is still not in the market yet, so cannot comment much. From the keynote, they have done very well with their TouchWiz software with alot of features. These features maybe useful or redundant depending on personal preference. But seriously not impressed with their hardware, especially the GPU and the Samoled screen. So if you would like their software feature, can go for SIII.

according to the GL Benchmark, the gpu is really good, even better than the 4s. so what's there not to be impressed about?

The GPU is the same. But the quad core cpu side is pushing the marks up.

I'm sure the increased clock speed does make some changes....but at the end of the day, will we truly see any games/apps that make use of the raw power? Doubt it. :( There's made for Tegra, made for Qualcomm, but no made for Exynos. :(

Thanks for the advice, since my contract is ending end of May, I'll wait and see SIII's pricing and others before making my choice. Finally some real choices for consumers choosing the Android platform! :D

Unless one is prepared to wait, there's so much potential for Quad core that developers would relish pushing the limits even further.

You know, that's the same thing they said about dual cores that I too partook in. Sadly, it's not the truth so far. :( As of now, there's no game out there that truly requires quad cores or even dual cores that isn't exclusive to any SOC as part of another crappy exclusivity deal. :(

It's a numbers game - with exclusivity deals they get more cash upfront. But if you don't wish to get involved in such deals, you have to support as many SOC types out there, thus u cannot afford to restrict yourself to quadcore or to a lesser degree dualcore. :(

:( Then they need to start taking this seriously, before people become disillusioned. Having such a powerful phone but without the apps to utilise all the power is such a travesty.

I agree, in video games too. There are no games that fully utilize 4 cores in PC gaming. And most games don't even fully utilize 2 cores.

It's the same with phones I guess.

Sadly, that isn't going to change anytime soon, given Android's hardware fragmentation. :(

Chances are, we're going to see more SOC exclusives, where they code for only 1 SOC, before taking the time to branch out and support other SOCs after making sure the main core development works properly.

To a lesser degree I guess....with PC gaming, a GPU/CPU upgrade reaps much benefits in terms of resolution, framerates, visual improvements in terms of filters and technical wizardry due to graphics cards improvements. They have built in game scalers to let the user decide how far they wanna push it.

Android wise, not so much. They code for the lowest denomination that they wish to support, so anything better u have just makes it faster or less laggy, with zero visual improvements. :(

plus the battery life hahah
actally dual core is still quite good
battery tech cant catch up hardware ever bumping up the cpu speed
quad on a 2100mah feels tiny
compare to a note on 2500mah

s3 should have at least a 2500mah as a start

And my friend was like so happy when he told me that it will come with 2100mAh battery when the processor, the screen size will suck even more out as compared to the SII...But I'll reserve my judgment till the phone is out.

But from the other websites, it shows that the US edition of the One X actually outperforms the International One X significantly... Maybe because their dual core has been optimised better than the quad cores version or what.

The only good thing for SIII over One X at this point is that, at the very least the battery can be removed or changed, with the option of a much higher capacity battery or simply getting some battery extender or it's equivalent. If the One X battery has started to die off, I may need to change the entire damn phone just like using an apple phone. But I do think there will be some differences since the SIII uses Super AMOLED whereas the SII actually uses super AMOLED+, which uses more battery for it's screen albeit in a smaller size.

I haven't had a chance to play with a quad-core phone but ever since I switched to a dual-core phone I've found that it performs great for my usage. For normal usage it's responsive enough besides a few lags sometimes, even in games after an initial lag it usually continues smoothly for the rest of the gaming session.

Until battery technology catches up, it doesn't seem that appealing to keep upgrading to more power-hungry phones, since you have to charge it more often.
