First impressions of Jelly Bean

Flashed the deodexed rom on xda and the superuser zip file. Some early observations:

Launcher - Nothing new that hasn't been mentioned in keynote. Icons can now be flicked/tossed away after long pressing. Widget autoresizing and icons shuffling works as demonstrated.

Notifications - Seem more busy now. Option to disable notifications from a certain app is useful.

Text Input - New offline voice typing, comes with English. Mandarin pack downloadable. Haven't tested much for the word prediction yet.

Camera and Gallery - Now allow for easy deletion of photos in a filmstrip-like view.

Google Now - Displays current weather, and the bus arrival times at the bus stop in front of my block. Trying to activate the sports card though.

Google Search - Brings up fast, nicely formatted results for queries it understands - provided it understands one's English.

UI Tweaks - Animations and transitions are changed. Preferred the ICS ones, though they are smooth. ICS is already quite smooth so I can't see much differences. Flicking through homescreens while running a live wallpaper feels slightly smoother. Some menus (e.g. "share via" and "Complete action using") now use a grid layout. Emojis font included.

Contact Photos - Can't seem to sync higher-res contact photos uploaded from desktop onto GMail

Face Unlock - now adds a "liveness check" that requires a blink, but it didn't detect even my exaggerated blinking sometimes.

Play Music - Couple of UI changes, plus widget with small album art

Browser - Chrome didn't come with the installation, the Android browser seems to have some performance enhancements, Sunspider benchmarks are now approaching 1500.

Misc Stuff - Cool new interactive easter egg - toss those jelly beans away! In addition, USB Debugging mode now has a very beanie icon

I believed that my Nexus was not the google version.

Thus i toolkit it (forgot to backup all photos and videos..)
used the step 3-7
Reflashed a google stock rom 4.0.4 IMM76I

Am i right to say all rooting and driver installations are no more?
And i will receive google updates from now on?

Nexus toolkit........... learn adb and fast boot please, it will come in handy.

the price dropped to USD349 which is around is about $447.
seems like a very good price for its class, anyway i can purchase this phone at this price?

Jelly Bean is pretty cool. The UI speed increases aren't fantastic but there is noticeable improvement in framerates of transition effects. The fade in and out transition effects do approach iphone fluidity but there are still rare instances of split second jerks in between opening and closing of apps. But on the whole UI experience is approaching iphone, if that is what matters to you. They also added more transition effects, like when you go into more than 2 levels of menus, the screen jumps in and out instead of fading like normal.

All stock live wallpapers now work without stuttering of homescreens unlike in ICS.

Another interesting addition is swipe up gestures from the nav bar. You swipe up from the home nav button to call out an overlay that looks like the lockscreen ring with a shortcut to google now app. I think developers can make use of that to add more shortcuts.

So far these are my initial observations.

i saw on xda that ti backup got some issues.. quite troubling is factory reset and cannot restore apps.

Depends on how you feel. You want cutting edge? Go Jelly Bean. But you will miss the customizations from AOKP.

I was on AOKP 40 but now I'm on Jelly Bean and I'm not looking back until AOKP is on Jelly Bean.

As for apps, sure got a few will break compatibility with Jelly Bean. So far the apps I use have no problem. But I read got some apps like Viber will crash etc.

Nova launcher just updated to be Jelly Bean compatible, super smooth

I have no problems restoring with Titanium backup. Usually I just restore user apps with data, should be no problem. The problems I read about are the ones with encrypted backups. If you not using that feature should be ok.

Nova Launcher works but Apex crashes for me.

Using Go Backup, no problems restoring my apps from ICS. Some say that fixing permissions would solve some issues.

Don't flash the one by koush, those by Paul or bigxie won't overwrite CWM.

No prob. U should just forget about the google restore. I never use it because it's a waste of time and it needs to upload and download all your saved apps from the google servers. At least that's what I remembered.

Using Titanium backup is so much easier but best if you donated for it for the convenience of batch backup.

As fifa03fan mentioned, get the bigxie rom or modaco rom because they are rooted already.

Hmm, you mean on nova launcher? If so I just delete and re add the widgets.

I hope you did not restore system apps and data. That will screw things up. Just restore user apps and data.

Also, you should go to CWM recovery and do a fix permissions.

When adding widgets using nova launcher. The names of the widgets are blacked out but still can add the widget.
Weird bug?
