You have installed one or more apps that spam ads.
Be more careful of what you download and read the permissions before installing them.

not jus SPAM apps, even fake apps with virus, etc

These are all fake BBM apps

At best, you back-tracked what free apks you have just installed
that cause this and uninstall it.

Read the descriptions of some of those free apks cos' nothing
are really FOC, some made monies out of advertisement.

However some are really free, no strings attached.

P.S. read your post again; "Sometimes there'll be some unwanted auto-installation of apps / links on the home screens as well"

Seems like your PlayStore setting checked on 'Auto-update' and 'Auto-add widgets' to Home screen. If so, just unchecked it.
Thanks all. Have done just that and the unwanted ads/apps are gone.

First off, i'm new to android.

On my Nexus 7, I'm encountering quite a lot of annoying ads. Sometimes there'll be some unwanted auto-installation of apps / links on the home screens as well. I remove them, and they keep coming back.

How do I put a stop to that? I've installed Adblock already (though my tablet has not been rooted yet).

Search the Play store for this app made by Lookout security. It's Lookout Ad Detector or something like that.

Scan your tablet with that app and remove the offending apps.

Don't install apps like crazy.. Google doesn't control the quality of apps as much as Apple does.
