I do not experience Google Pay issue on Pixel 4a (not rooted) with the latest June-2022 system update. No issue on using GPay at bus and retail shops.

I bought it the moment it's available, and used it for 2+ years before the battery bloated. Initially, I can charge every 1.5 to 2 days. Third-party battery is around $48, not too bad.
