They did not mature in hardware even after 6 pixels release other than the a-series which is slightly more successful. This round they even screw up their software release , not sure if getting in htc team helps anything at all. I think i am done with their “Flagship”.

Think besides Samsung and Apple, there no other consideration, esp if u want to stick to Android.

Btw Sony updates are bi-monthly. And since release till now, they have not settled the TraceTogther NFC issue.

Not really, I have the Xperia pro I (SG) and 1iii (HK) currently, no issues with Trace together NFC since day 1 and they are updating monthly.
1iii is already on Android 12, the update came 1 week ish ago!
I am using Vivo X70 pro+ (CN) currently as well (this one is bi monthly)
Sold off the oppo FX3 pro on August 21.
(also my company is a google based company so I am heavy into google usage and am a fan of google photo)
I gave up on Huawei p50p though, passed it to my dad-in-law as the inconvenience and workarounds are taxing by now.

I have actual 1st hand experiences and encounters with those Japanese, China and US phones.
Neutrally, I have a superior experience with them VS p6p currently.
Dont get me wrong, I am using p6p as my main driver now (from Sammy's s21ultra), I was really looking forward to an awesome legendary experience after waiting for so many generations but it fell rather short.
My current decision is to hang on for 1 more month till end Feb22, maybe I'll replace it with s22ultra.

(funny thing: I used to hate and despise Xperia imagings, but I am a fan now, those are the extreme opposite vs pixel images. 1 is super processed while 1 is super natural. The raws from xperia pro-i is so good if you bother to process them. Its the super convenience of pixel point and shoot VS a lot of set up and work for the xperia but the process itself is artistic)

I am convincing myself to allocate more patience, I hope that the software side can help...

I waited for a long time before jumping onto a pixel phone,
-I cannot swallow the fact that previously, they are calling premium pricing for mid range hardware (those previous models were never mature or polished enough to truly pit against the likes of sammy and fruity)
-by this gen, they are actually of worthy value with good hardware (if we ignore the import and shipping charges)

Unfortunately for google the following is also quite true:
-the other OEM's additional layers of OS have caught up
-they are arguably just as smooth and speedy
-the other OEM's periodical software update cycle have caught up drastically too
(for e.g sammy is like update every 5 weeks ish, Sony monthly, Xiaomi monthly or even sooner, Vivo every 4-6 weeks ish)
-the computational photography have its strength on certain scenarios but can also be a bad eyesore on others (like picture with furs of my pomsky, the outcome is just too harsh and processed. Her fur is like on spikey super saiyan mode with pictures taken from p6p, lol)
-the likes of vivo and the route the china competitors take are more wholesome marrying both hardware and software and they are gaining momentum on having additional imaging chips which are showing great results. They just need to reign in their nonsensical white filters (which mindblowingly extended to their dramas) (you can see fruity being forced to follow their trend of saturating more and increasing POP, LOL, and that is quite the compliment in itself)
-I am also a little surprised with google's slightly lack in polish (but noticeable) after so many version of pixels and with a portion of their mobile team based on HTC's old team (HTC's hardware quality and polish are pretty impressive then)
-this whole pixel 6 pro experience so far is akin to those chinese phones 3 years back (which lacks polish at that point) but now, the table have turned...

In all fairness, my p6p never gave me any problems apart from the battery longetivity and charging speed
but those are severe fundamental flaws.
Imo, Pixel is more like the chinese phones of yesteryears playing catchup now...
(I was never a fan of MKBHD as he lacks the neutrality of a technologist but I can relate to him with the pixel 6 developments so far...)

Sigh...
Hear like this is your first pixel phone?

Lol, my 1iii is HK imported and registered to Sony HK while ProI is SG set bought from Sony SG.
I do find HK set updating generally faster especially for my ex S21ultra (it seemed to be an IMDA created issue)
but Xperia ProI which is an SG set is updating impressively fast

1st flagship grade pixel phone. I got the 4a earlier on for kids' usage.
For previous pixel generations, as mentioned, i hated google's manner of charging premium pricing with medium range hardware and refused to buy them. I refused to be the carrot...

I think lots of people overhype themselves for Pixel phones. Those who have been using Pixels for years know what to expect and also appreciate what a Pixel brings to the Android experience.

Been using pixel for a few days.. what bugs? Or maybe nothing much that bother me besides the wireless epp requirement. Even Samsung and apple have their fair share of bugs.

Great battery life and performance. I'll recommend this phone anytime. Only regret was I bought pixel 5 pricer than my pixel 6 with medicore specs.

Pixels are easy to unlock and root without voiding your warranty. This to my is my huge plus. Coming from P4XL, P6P's battery life is alot better. Of course I do not use other brand Android phones, only this and iOS.

And you r expecting an *awesome legendary experience* :s13: . That did not happen in the past and can guarantee not gonna happen future either.
People here paid for premium price and enjoy being guinea pig for Google lol..

Heh, your last sentence sums it up. Worth it imo from a technologist perspective, you don’t know until you experience it, no?
My mentioned expectations were exaggerated sarcasm :sneaky: Jokes and drama aside, I setted my expectations alongside every other flagships I acquire in 2021. The likes of vivo x70 pro+ went above while P6p is below and thus my feedback on the state of smart phones in early 2022.
I am not bashing pixel here and have defended it with fairness from my personal encounter with it on occasions.

Agree, there are a couple of minor bugs i do notice but no deal breakers. Battery life could be better but its actually very good already. Camera is reliable and very high quality.

Have been using since launch.

I'm also on my second day after updating the P6Pro, its improved a bit. Mobile network standby used to be close to 30%

Mobile network standby 23%
Screen 10%
Phone idle 3%
Wifi 6%
Android 1%

Having a bit less loss of network, went also back to activate Adaptive Connectivity. Hoping this improves month by month, too many times i run into low battery issues.

Getting 5G Starhub SIM on Thursday :)

Which telcom u switching over from ?

IIRC you are coming from OnePlus 7/7T.
I was using OnePlus 7T (OOS10) and the only real upgrades I feel so far is the main camera and vibration motor.

Yes correct, then are you happy or disappointed with p6? 🤔

I actually like my op7 and the biggest reason to change bc of poor camera. Even the current battery life is still pretty impressive for a 2.5yo imo

I wish there was a factory sp and with a simple case so can use the phone right away since no charger le. This is sth I must praise the Chinese phone manufacturers for being very 贴心. Hopefully my skills to paste is more than acceptable :s13: sometimes not abt money but very troublesome to do all these wahahaha

the only issue i had so far is that in every ~ 1/10 times, when i leave home and switch off the wifi, my M.R network won't auto connect back to LTE, have to toggle airplane mode in order to work.

any of your have this issue too?
