Google is not referring to a specific model (Pro, A-Series, etc.) today.

Have you ever experienced low volume on your buds or humming sound? These situations are not ideal but have the possibility to happen right in the middle of our favorite song or on a call or during the most intense part of a movie.

Notably, these steps require going into Android’s Developer options. To enable that, go to Settings > About phone and tap “Build number” several times.

The instructions for boosting volume are split between Pixel and all other Android devices. On Google phones, it involves switching off “Disable absolute volume,” which is off by default on Android 13 and 14 devices we checked. Find it under the “Network” sub-menu, but you can just search for it:

  1. Go into your phone settings
  2. Tap System
  3. Tap Developers options
  4. Under “Networking” turn “Disable absolute volume” off

Google on Friday evening announced a new firmware update for the original Pixel Buds A-Series.

Firmware version 3.581.0 is rolling out to the original Pixel Buds A-Series from 2021. This update contains “bug fixes and performance and security improvements.” No other details are available today.

Open the Pixel Buds companion app > More settings > Firmware update to start the download on Android. You can also go to mypixelbuds.google.com on desktop browsers.

  • Automatic updates: If you have automatic updates turned on, your Pixel Buds A-Series will automatically update when connected to a Pixel phone using Android 10+ or an Android 6.0+ device with the Pixel Buds app installed. This download takes about 10 minutes, and you can still use your earbuds during this time. Once downloaded, the update will install when you place the earbuds into the charging case with sufficient battery. If no update is mentioned, your firmware is current.
  • Manual updates: When automatic updates are turned off, a notification will appear on your device when an update is available, but it won’t be downloaded or installed on your Pixel Buds. You can manually initiate the download on your phone once it’s available. This takes about 15 minutes.

This follows a similar update for the 2022 Pixel Buds Pro in December.
