We’re not expecting the July 2025 Pixel update to start rolling out until next week, but Verizon’s changelog provides an early preview.

Verizon has prematurely released its Pixel 6a-9 Pro Fold — Pixel 6 and 6 Pro curiously excluded — update changelogs. The release date was yesterday (July 2), but Google has yet to release anything as of Thursday morning.

From the email to Pixel 6a owners, we expect this month’s update to start rolling out on Tuesday, July 8. Google no longer sticks to the first Monday of the month, but it’s usually still around then. The July 4th holiday in the US typically pushes things back a bit.

The software version/build number (BP2A.250705.008) looks accurate, but the Android Security Patch Level is listed as “June 2025.” That’s presumably a mistake.

Anyways, the July 2025 Pixel update changelog has two items:

  • Display & Graphics: Improves smoother visual experiences in apps like Android Auto.
  • Wi-Fi: Improves Wi-Fi connectivity stability and performance in certain conditions.
This is first patch update to Android 16, with one more expected in August before the big QPR1 release with the Material 3 Expressive redesign.

Don’t expect a Pixel Watch update this month (next one should be in September) unless Google has identified pressing Wear OS fixes.

July 2025 Android Update Available for Google Pixel Devices

Following the release of the stable Android 16 update for Pixel phones in June, the first Android 16 monthly patch is here for July. Owners of Pixel phones, your new update is available and it may take care of some bugs you were experiencing.

2025 July Pixel Update: In this latest Pixel update (BP2A.250705.008), anyone with a Pixel 6a up through the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will see this update, as those devices are still supported by Google, some for years and years to come. This update will also bring the battery performance update for the Pixel 6a, which has been flagged by Google as being an issue that needs addressed to stabilize batteries on select 6a units.

There is no update for the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro just yet, but there should be. These phones are scheduled to see updates through October 2026. We’ll see what we can find out.

This new update should begin rolling out shortly to your Pixel device, so feel free to check for it right away. As is always the case, the rollout of the update begins today and then could take a week or more to hit yours depending on carrier and device. To check for it, head into Settings>System>Software updates>System update.

2025 July Pixel Update Bug Fixes: Verizon slipped up last week with the below fixes and Google has now confirmed that those are the only two they are mentioning in their official changelog. Oddly, Google also mentions that there are “no Pixel security patches in the July 2025 Pixel Update Bulletin.” This apparently just a bug fixer update, not a security update.
  • Display & Graphics: Improves smoother visual experiences in apps like Android Auto.
  • Wi-Fi: Improves Wi-Fi connectivity stability and performance in certain conditions.
Again, Google (and its carrier partners like Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T) will begin pushing these updates over-the-air shortly (Settings>System>Software updates>System update), but if you don’t want to wait for Google and prefer to update manually, you will soon find each factory image or OTA file at the links below.

With Android 16, users can enable Advanced Protection to “activate Google’s strongest security for mobile devices.” The Chrome for Android team has now detailed how Advanced Protection works.

There are three main Advanced Protection features in Chrome 137+ on Android 16, starting with “Always use secure connections” — or HTTPS — being enabled. Before connecting to an insecure (HTTP) site, Chrome asks for explicit permission before loading.

There may be attackers attempting to interpose on connections on any network, whether that network is a coffee shop, airport, or an Internet backbone. This setting protects users from these attackers reading confidential data and injecting malicious content into otherwise innocuous webpages.

This setting can be enabled independently of Advanced Protection from Chrome Settings > Privacy and security > Always use secure connection.

Chrome Android Advanced Protection

The next feature disables the “higher-level optimizing Javascript compilers inside V8.”

V8 is Chrome’s high-performance Javascript and WebAssembly engine. The optimizing compilers in V8 make certain websites run faster, however they historically also have been a source of known exploitation of Chrome. Of all the patched security bugs in V8 with known exploitation, disabling the optimizers would have mitigated ~50%

This prevents a large category of exploits, but at the expense of “causing performance issues for some websites.” You can also enable this independent of Advanced Protection from Settings > Privacy and security > Javascript optimization & security, with the ability to add per-site exceptions if pages you frequently are heavily impacted.

Chrome Android Advanced Protection

Finally, Advanced Protection enables Site Isolation wherein Chrome “isolates each website into its own rendering OS process” in memory.

This isolation prevents a malicious website from accessing data or code from another website, even if that malicious website manages to exploit a vulnerability in Chrome’s renderer—a second bug to escape the renderer sandbox is required to access other sites

Desktop Chrome enables Site Isolation by default, but mobile Android devices have memory constraints. Without Advanced Protection, “Chrome will only isolate a site if a user logs into that site, or if the user submits a form on that site.”

Advanced Protection isolates all sites on devices with 4+ GB of RAM.

AUGUST 2025 PIXEL UPDATE - DOWNLOAD

The Google Pixel update for August is rolling out as what should be one of the final minor updates before the big one drops in September. This new update for Pixel devices is expected to feature bug fixes and security patches, while the next update will be QPR1 of Android 16 with all of the lovely Material 3 Expressive design changes.

2025 August Pixel update: In this latest Pixel update (BP2A.250805.005 for most devices), anyone with a Pixel 6a up through the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will see this update, as those devices are still supported by Google. That said, Google does skip months from time to time, like they did last month with the Pixel 6, which never did see a July update and Google never mentioned why that was. Thankfully, a Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro update is here this time (although it looks like a June build?).

  • Pixel 6: BP2A.250605.031.A5
  • Pixel 6 Pro: BP2A.250605.031.A5
  • Pixel 6a: BP2A.250705.008.A1
  • Pixel 7: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 7 Pro: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 7a: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel Tablet: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel Fold: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 8: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 8 Pro: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 8a: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 9: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 9 Pro: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold: BP2A.250805.005
  • Pixel 9a: BP2A.250805.005
This new update should begin rolling out shortly to your Pixel device, so feel free to check for it right away. As is always the case, the rollout of the update begins today and then could take a week or more to hit yours depending on carrier and device. To check for it, head into Settings>System>Software updates>System update.

2025 August Pixel update bug fixes: There are only 3 bug fixes listed by Google, which you can see below.
  • System:
    • General improvements for system stability and performance in certain conditions
  • User Interface:
    • Fix for an issue where the scheduled dark theme was not working in certain conditions
    • Fix for issues with 3-button navigation and gesture navigation in certain conditions
