Google services completely useless in China

In China for 1 month. None of google services is working here.no play store, google map nor google search.

The wife iphone dont have any issue. Now I know why apple products are more popular in China.

But when switch to their local network or wifi in hotels. All cant use

These services are absolutely blocked by the Great China Firewall including Straits Times and CNA.

I've gotten an extra roaming HK SIM so if anyone needs please WhatsApp me 900988one5 for self collection in Singapore. Free upgrade to 1GB for your 5 days use. This card is from Hong Kong, it is considered Roaming. So not filtered by China.

I had used this in China recently and it saved my life and job! Can access Google, Facebook, Youtube, Googlemap, translator, WhatsApp, Skype, Yahoo, Gmail, Twitter etc with ease and at 4G. I've gotten crystal clear calls on my whatsapp.

If you don't use this and buy those from the local SIM sellers, you'll be on Chinese wordings versions & have to use Baidu. You can't get this in China.

As mentioned by the previous guy, there's no issue if you're roaming, which is what I usually do. StarHub RoamEasy 100MB/$10 a day is good enough. In the hotel I just use my VPN if need to.

Roaming works cause we're using a foreign SIM card.

In China, use Baidu. Baidu map is very good if not better than google map.

VPN wont work (incl onavo) coz it was blocked too. China has very impressive great firewall just like the great wall! It allowed my bro to access his UOB Malaysia acct for once and next it was blocked!

Another note: it is very difficult to get China Sim Card - there is no pre-paid and only sign-on. It means you have to terminate the card before you leave China otherwise the monthly fee will accumulate! AND you need to be in the same province to terminate! I was in Chengdu and then Xian... 2 diff provinces... hence cant terminate the card.

In the end, I rely on free wifi! China has wifi in most of the famous tourist spots, restaurants, hotels, airport, etc, etc, etc. You just need to ask and you get free wifi!

If you need to be contacted 24/7, then use roaming. Else, enjoy the scenery, connect to the www when you have the chance.

yup get a VPN - ask the laowais there for recommended ones. If not, actually Baidu is good enough. Some Chinese hotels - the top end ones - should be able to access google and facebook too haha

If you need Gmail, better set the auto forwarding to other email like Outlook or Yahoo.

For Google Map you can use Amap, which is the map provider of Apple in China.

This card is from Hong Kong 7-Eleven, it is considered Roaming. So not filtered by China. No registration is needed. You can't get this SIM anywhere in China.

There is another roaming SIM by China Mobile but it can use only on restricted phones types eg IP6 and Note 4 and above. Some contents are still restricted to a certain extent. Mine is not that one. Those from the local sellers will be in Chinese wordings & use only Baidu etc with the above services all blocked.

Can access Google, Facebook, Youtube, Googlemap, translator, WhatsApp, Skype, Yahoo, Gmail, Twitter. I've gotten crystal clear calls on my whatsapp on mainland. The Great China Firewall now also blocks Straits Times and CNA if you use the local SIMs and wifi. Cheers

can try using VPN to bypass, instagram snapchat facebook twitter etc all not available without VPN,
for search engine can try using "baidu"
