----------------------

Bought from Amazon (USD 199) and shipped via Borderlinx. Total cost inc. shipping was about SGD 270.

Local is out of stock and new stocks should only arrive in about 3 weeks time. Local retail price is $359.

----------------------

Unveiled at CES 2013, Seagate's Wireless Plus won CNET's Best of CES for Networking and Storage category for a reason: it's a big step up from its predecessor, the Seagate GoFlex Satellite.

The drive now combines 1TB of storage space, 10-hour-and-then-some battery life, and a built-in Wi-Fi network that supports up to eight concurrent clients in one compact package about the size of a regular USB 3.0 portable drive. Connected clients can stream digital content from it and you can also back up content to it, using a mobile app or a network browser.

And, when connected to a computer, it also works as a portable drive, just like any other.

One question, for android case can you directly open video files using 3rd party app like MX Player without downloading the data to mobile devices? Or video streaming (w/o downloading) limited to purely native apps only?

yes you can open directly via samba (SMB)
you can connect directly to the HDD with wifi passthrough to your network, or connect to ur network direct and access the HDD like a wireless NAS (but have to use the seagate app to connect to ur wifi network first)

btw you can also use XBMC, it supports HW decode too

RE

One question

So can transfer files wirelessly to the Seagate Wireless Plus from other devices or you need to use USB/Firewire/ThunderBolt to do it only?

The Seagte Goflex Satellite wireless hdd can have files transferred to it wirelessly but needs hacking.

it can act like a wireless NAS, so you can copy files to and from the hdd via NFS or Samba

for the iPad you can transfer iOS supported files over to the HDD via the seagate app

What a waste. Just like the Seagate Goflex Satellite wireless hdd you still can't upload files directly to the Seatgate Wireless Plus from the Eye-Fi card when shooting from a camera

yes, you can't upload it directly. it has to be via a medium such as the iPad before you can transfer it to the HDD.

basically, the app has to support eye-fi for you to be able to receive pics directly from the camera, so it is more of a software issue.

Can this stream unsupported video files like rmvb using oplayer without an internet connection? Reading your first post, you bought it from amazon right? But there's no warranty covered locally? Now it's $299 at the PC show.. tempting..

It's $249 that they sell at the show. Local sets. Well worth it if you use with hackseagatesatellite dot com .

If you use the software from hackseagatesatellite dot com, you will be able to use OPlayer or any media player to play files like rmvb, mov avi wmv etc.

WRONG. You can use the Seagate Wireless Plus and have EyeFi Card support. Check out the alternative firmware out there. hackseagatesatellite dot com.

Yes, a 3rd party app can be used to stream movies not natively supported by the WL+

So where can we get this now? I went to Challenger and they are only selling the Go Flex Satellite which is the predecessor.

I can't get MXPlayer to stream videos after updating to the latest version of Seagate Media. Anyone else having the same problem? (Please backup and DO NOT update to the latest version yet!)
