Gpu boost clock

this may be noob question but pls bear with me. How come my gpu boost clock seems to be above it's spec? Me running zotac gtx 1070 mini, specs says boost clock is 1708 but when in game at loads, my afterburner and gpuz both can show it runs at 1794-1800+. Normal?

GPU Boost 3.0 will give you a higher boost speed if there is enough power and your GPU can handle it.

btw, I got 2,088 GHz boost at stock voltage.

jus curios, does it manage to hold at 2088? i see ur graphics score is 6104 for tat run, was thinking it shud be abt 6400+...

The Zotac is stable at 2,038 MHz with 99% frame-rate stability.

My whole system is tuned for low power - CPU turbo off, RAM underclocked from 1866 to 1600 MHz at 1.35V, c7s state enabled etc. This makes my CPU (with turbo on) bench at about 10% below reference. Running with CPU turbo off and max power savings presumably affected the GPU as well. I wasn't going for Time Spy score so didn't bother to set OC parameters for the system.

More out of habit than any heat/noise issue.

The i7-4790K is more than powerful enough even with turbo off.

If you don't mind the noise, customize the fan curve to go higher while you load your gpu to above 60%

Do you guys use custom fan curve for Zotac 1070 Mini? Mine gets pretty hot 82C under load on Witcher 3 all maxed with stock fan settings.

That's too hot. Mine goes to 74C on load with custom fan curve, 80% at 70C, 100% at 80C.

When startup windows it will be around 53-55 and minutes later goes into stable 60. Is this normal? Btw Cpu is around 30 when idle after adjusting fan curve.

its normal for every gpu. this is call the 0db cooling system, where temp hits 60 or above, the fans will start spining to cool down the gpu.

Ok decided fo bring it down. Use afterburner and chose auto at 35% fan speed. Now gpu fans spinning at 1300rpm but with a youtube and some monitoring apps playing at background, temps is down to 50.

Such setting on gpu fans will make gpu or its fans die faster compared to let it auto spin only at 60? Or nothing bad will happen as long as i can tolerate the noise if any.

Install GPU-Z and check whether your GPU clocks are running higher on idle. It should be 164.5MHz for GPU and 202.5MHz for Memory.

My Zotac 1070 mini idles at 38c-48c depending on ambient temps with fans off.

Nope, gpu @ stock 1518.5mhz while mem is at 2003.4mhz. How to make it go lower when not at game?

Mine is the same when using 0 dB. At fan speed of 40%, it idles at 45C. Your card looks normal, perhaps you can adjust the fan speed for 60, 70 and 80C.

Your power management is not allowing the GPU to idle. From Nvidia Control Panel - 3D Settings - Manage 3D Settings - Global Settings - Power Management Mode, change to "Adaptive" from "Prefer maximum performance".

This brought my idle temp to 37C at 30% fan speed.

When not in game, it should go lower by itself. Try to install the latest driver 376.09.

Thank you! Installed 376.09 driver and issue solved.

Reset fan curve to auto(i.e. Kicks in at only 60 degrees), nvidia control panel power mgmt mode set to optimal (new option compared to last time only has maximum performance or adaptive?). Now gpuz sensors showing gpu@164.5mhz, memory @202.5mhz while gpu temp is at 45 with no fans spinning now.
