Hi there,

My MSI afterburner is set at 875/950, and it runs at those settings while i run programs like valley and heaven.

However, once I start games, the GPU runs at 975/1250, which causes crashes.

What's causing this and why is Afterburner being overruled in games? Can someone point me in the right directions?

Even GPU-Z says that the clock wasn't changed. Any idea as to why and how to overcome this? I've tried to search for and remove any other tuning program installed.

Gonna try again. Looking forward to feedback.

Activated CCC and it reflects the same settings as Afterburner. gonna run again and see how it is.

Edit: Nope. Still crashes. Same problem. It reset to 975/1250.

U reset to stock settings try again?

If cannot, call up GPU distro and ask? Coz if even at card default settings also cannot run, means GPU fault perhaps?

ah perhaps some background info would be good.

the card is no longer under warranty. And i'm underclocking it to make it run because it seems faulty. It's a 290, so underclocking will still solve most of my needs.

Default is 975/1250, but I would like to run it at 875/950. Because if it runs at default it crashes. I don't have the option of RMA, so I have to make do. If the settings revert, it crashes, so I have to keep it at 875/950.

Now any other ideas?

Edit: I removed MSI Afterburner and Used CCC only, and still yeilded 975/1250. Even after applying Graphics overdrive and lowering the limits.

It's mind boggling. I just want to underclock this ****.

Update:

Fresh install of windows allowed it to maintain 875/950.

Still crashed after that haha.

Work goes on, but at least this one can be closed from here.
