GPU failure - can't RMA

Hi all,

GPU (Zotac GTX1060 Mini 3GB) died. Out of warranty, can't RMA. TechDynamic says to ask Zotac for help regarding past-warranty repairs. Zotac says no-go. Not gonna buy from Zotac again, kinda sad given that the card has already been RMA-ed before.

Any GPU repair shops around SG? I see a lot of PC repair shops but not sure if they are able to work on GPUs specifically, since I see some of them just offering/selling replacement parts, but I doubt that will happen for a 4 year old GPU.

More details if anyone is interested or know-how: GPU artifacts flashing colors on screen or the jagged static you see on old TVs. Take it out for a couple of days while using a GT730 for basic display, try GTX1060 again and it works, rinse and repeat. No, I do not have a spare oven to try to bake it. Yes, it's definitely the GPU, everything else works fine with the GT730. Just upgraded to a B550+5600X with a 4 year old Seasonic 80+ Gold PSU.

Never seen any graphics card repair shop in sls. And i'm not wrong, warrany are limited,
where got so good to let you keep rma.

In any case, even if you manage to find somone willing to repair, the cost will exceed what the GPU is worth.

Bro, budget's always the limiting factor. Not everyone can up and go buy cards now as prices are just nuts. Just go check with Carousell, for example, used GTX 1060 3GB for 300SGD at the very least, 400+ to 500+ for a used GTX 1060 6GB. Totally not worth it.

As for OP, I would advise that he look around very carefully for a new/used card that performs well given its price range. Something like an RX 570 8GB perhaps, but good luck finding any card at a reasonable price now. It's just a very bad time now for a GPU to fail...

I agree that there's no point RMAing an out of warranty card. I generally won't recommend getting old second hand graphic cards as well. But its gonna be tough getting another budget card nowadays.

Lol the product already end-of-line you still want to RMA.. last year my GTX 970 up lorry, I guess I should have tried RMA also.

As for GPU repair, can shop around and see. I believe there are. But don't get your hopes up.

I was eyeing that. Still a very capable card that beats or keeps up with any GTX 1650/ 1650 Super and RX 5500. Only downside is the higher power consumption.

Agreed, higher power consumption but still a very capable 1080P gaming card, wins a majority of games when compared to the GTX 1060 6GB. At the 321SGD in the Amazon link, I think it's one of the most 'reasonably' price GPU around.

EOL also can RMA what, still under warranty can already. I RMAed my bro's almost 5 year old zotac GTX970 on Jan 2021 and got back the same card, they repaired it and cleaned the heatsink thoroughly as though its new. Surprisingly, they replaced the heavily oxidized I/O shield as well.

That's a good find. I had a Sapphire Pulse briefly and the build quality is good for its price range.

well, unless I'm mistaken, TS said that their card is out of warranty. So not sure what is the expectation on Zotac here. Since it is out of warranty, they are not obligated to accept RMA and if they agree to RMA it's a favor. Dunno why that makes them a bad company that should not be purchased from.

I think what he meant was end of life product are not equal to end of warranty service period. He can still send for rma as long as it is within the warranty period.

It's true, and I do believe that there are spare parts and expertise available to repair old cards. Yet, realistically, we on the consumer side also have to bear in mind EoL pdts there is always the scenario where parts are no longer available. Perhaps what they might do sometimes is to replace it with a newer, available model. Still, this is all provided that warranty cover is in effect.

AMD graphics card has poor opengl driver and don't suppor vulkan. It run poorly with console game emulator.

Zotac's warranty is one of the longest in the industry, i.e. 5 years. So if it is still within warranty, there is an obligation for them to replace/ fix the faulty card. The same does not apply to cards out of warranty. They may fix it for you, but you need to send in the card yourself, and find out later how much it will cost you for the repairs and for sending it back to you. If you accept and make the payment, they will send the card back to you. Otherwise, you lose the card.
