GPU Fan Question

Hi guys recently my pretty old gfx card's gpu fan has gone nuts...

the speed is unstable and runs randomly from super fast speed to slow, and stops at times.

GPU-Z reports RPM from 0-72980 yeah 72k so I think something is wrong with the onboard fan controller...

Would getting an aftermarket fan connected to the SYS_FAN slot work as a replacement? Or should I get a new graphics card instead?


edit: the GPU fan has stopped completely now but still runs... GPU-z reads that the fan is still rotating at the same insane varying rates

P.S. This is a Palit GTX460

Its a PWM fan. It will go fast and slow when needed to reduce the noise level.

The GPUZ wont tell you the exact rpm. It will fluctuate. Most important is the card does not overheat. If it exceeds more than 85degs then you should be worrying about.

Try Furmark and see hows the load.

Thanks for the advice, i understand it varies its speed by quite alot.. but as of now the fan has stopped spinning completely, so i m wondering to get an aftermarket fan instead?

Will suggest you to buy a new card, or even a used one.

sure i guess. which is a comparable model to the old GTX460 today? not playing high end games.. just simple ones like hearthstone and starcraft at most haha

gtx 750 ti or r7 260/270 should have better performance than it.
