Hi Guys,


Quick question, is buying used GPU from mining advisable?

Cause i see alot people selling at reasonable pricing but all from mining..

cause i heard it wont last long if from mining. TIA

Mining cards are at least 3-4x more used than a gaming card. Mining run 100% of the card at 24/7, where as gaming run 80-100% depending on the games and its graphical settings, run at an average of 8-10 hours a day for the typical gamer.

THEORETICALLY, the components are SUPPOSED will die prematurely. However, there is no proof yet for now as the card is not old enough.

However, I observed that what dies first on a mining card, is the fans. At the very least, mechanical failure is certain and more consistent compared to electronics failure.

Is mining card worth buying? For someone who often change his gear every 2 years, it's fine. For someone looking for a card that will last till his next major overhaul 5+ years, don't look like a good idea.

That's my opinion.

ya correct, if getting it for normal usage n expecting 3yr lifespan.. dont get cards used for mining.

I think it depends on the duration it is used and if there is any official warranty. Although the mining cards gets whacked 24/7, I heard from a miner which I sold my graphic card to, that they actually underclock/ undervolt the cards to reduce the temps and power. Which sort of helps prolong the lifespan. But long story short, if the card is still relatively new, i.e. about 6 months old. Perhaps you can consider if the price is very good.
