GPU or PSU faulty?

Hi all,

my PC immediately restarts running any furmark test or any game.
but is fine when watching video.

i tried using my integrated intel HD graphics, i can run furmark test and no issue.


before this happen, the crash was always accompanied with this error message.

"Default Radeon WattMan settings has been restored due to unexpected system failure"

but now, it just don't show any error messages.

GPU i changed recently, only 1-2 yrs ago.
its an AMD sapphire rx 580 nitro

Sounds like you have already troubleshooted the issue to a certain extent. As a final test I would remove the drivers using DDU and reinstall and if it still happens after that then its the card.

I tried installing 2020 or 2019 drivers after using ddu to uninstall. Same thing happened. Means it's gpu?

Might be your PSU 12v rail not enough power. I had the same problem before. Changed PSU and the problem was solved.

might be your PSU is unable to consistently provide stable power to your PC, might want to consider change to a cheap and fancy RGB 80+ certified brand new PSU with 5 years warranty.

wah the $35 one is really sketchy, not even sure if its really thermaltake.
for psu id recommend against thermaltake except for their toughpower series, better spend on psu oems like superflower or seasonic.

I swapped a spare gpu. I can run benchmark test with no issues. Does it mean, is my gpu that failed?

Sounds like the GPU cant take load so its starting to fail. Try the games on the spare GPU - may have to reduce the graphics details a bit but give it a good 30mins to 1 hour test and if that works then its your GPU thats starting to give up.

Glad to hear that you managed to get the burning question answered. Sometimes you do need to do a lot of testing before your 100% confident on your findings as there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to PC DIY.

I had this problem with my NVIDIA card the past dang week. At first it kept restarting on a certain game (Honkai 3), then kept restarting on DCS and all the other games. I troubleshoot night and day. In the end, I solved it using by reseating the GPU -_____-"

I wasted a week doing all those software troubleshooting when the issue was that simple to resolve. I didn't move nor knock on my cpu (which is on the floor since a few months ago) so I have no idea why that worked.
